On the afternoon of February 28, the Air Defense - Air Force Service announced that five helicopters, including Mi-8 and Mi-17, belonging to Air Force Regiment 916, Division 371, from the base in Hoa Lac (Hanoi) had just flown to Bien Hoa airport (Dong Nai) for flight training to serve the parade.
On the same morning, Su-30Mk2 fighters of the 927th Air Regiment also took off towards the South. The training process began in March.
According to the plan, 5 helicopters of Air Force Regiment 916 will land at 4 locations before completing the journey at Bien Hoa airport. The pilots will participate in training flights carrying the national flag with Helicopter Regiments 917 and 930 before performing at the parade in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City. The helicopter squadron's mission is to carry the national flag over the Independence Palace.
The 916th Helicopter Regiment is a unit with many years of experience in flag-raising missions, in events such as the International Defense Exhibition or the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
In addition to the Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, the Air Defense - Air Force also mobilized Su-30Mk2 fighters and Yak-130 training aircraft, a total of 27 aircraft, for this parade. This is the first time a large number of fighter planes have performed in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the plan, the parade on the morning of April 30, 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification will include the firing of 21 cannons to the background of the Vietnamese National Anthem, the air force's salute, a parade of model cars with the National Emblem - the Party flag, the Fatherland flag - a car carrying the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh; a parade of military and militia forces; a parade of police forces; and a parade of the masses.
