Former President Trump was the target of another assassination attempt on Sunday, when a gunman hid in the bushes near a fence at the golf course he was playing. Before he could strike, he was discovered by the Secret Service and arrested. This was the second time the Republican candidate was nearly shot in as many months.
"Suddenly we heard gunshots in the air, I guess maybe four or five, and it sounded like bullets," he told an audio platform on social media site X late Monday.

The suspect in the Trump assassination attempt may have been lying in wait for 12 hours. “The Secret Service knew right away it was bullets, and they got me,” Trump added, noting that the shots were actually fired by federal agents at a suspect when they saw a rifle sticking out of the tree line.
Mr Trump blamed Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden for inciting the assassin, citing what he called their rhetoric about him endangering democracy. Such language from Democratic leaders “got me shot, when I was the one who was going to save the country,” he said.
The incident has added to the tension and stakes ahead of the US presidential election in seven weeks. Still, Mr Trump held a town hall event on Tuesday in Flint, a Michigan city hit hard by the closure of auto plants and a decade-long water crisis.
Mr Trump's Michigan rallies, as well as Ms Harris's Pennsylvania bid, come as both candidates focus on a number of key battleground states to win the US Electoral College.
A new poll from Suffolk University and USA Today shows Harris with a slight 49-46% advantage over Trump in Pennsylvania. The gap is largely due to strong support from female voters, with Harris leading among women 56% to Trump's 39%. Meanwhile, the former US President won the male vote by a narrower margin of 53-41%.
In appealing to women, Harris pushed the issue of reproductive rights — a hot button issue since the US Supreme Court's 2022 decision to overturn abortion regulations nationwide, sparking a wave of abortion bans and restrictions in 22 states.
