On November 26, after US President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would impose comprehensive tariffs on goods from China and elsewhere, Beijing warned that "no one will win in a trade war".

"China believes that economic and trade cooperation between Beijing and Washington is mutually beneficial in nature," said Liu Bangyu, spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in the US.
Earlier the same day (local time), Mr. Trump announced that he would impose an additional 10% tax on goods from China and a 25% tax on all imports from Mexico and Canada.
These tariffs are aimed at preventing fentanyl and illegal immigrants from entering the United States, he said.
During the campaign, the Republican Party representative pledged to end preferential trade status for China and impose tariffs of more than 60% on imports from this country - much higher than the level imposed during his first presidential term.
The world's second-largest economy is now more vulnerable to a prolonged downturn in the property sector, debt risks and weak domestic demand.
Commenting on Mr. Trump's new tax rate, Mr. William Reinsch, senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that the move is typical of the new White House owner's style: "Threat, then negotiate."
