Admitted to 15 American universities, including some in the world's top 50 with scholarships worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even having "deposited" on one school, at the "89th minute", Duong Bao Tien decided to enroll in VinUni University. After 4 years, reality has proven that Bao Tien's decision was completely correct.
Bet on the "0 year old" school
Duong Bao Tien, a former student of the School of Business and Management, is among 32% of VinUni's first graduating class who have been offered jobs by global corporations, leading Vietnamese enterprises, technology groups and financial institutions with attractive salaries and benefits. For Bao Tien, it was an opportunity to work at the Boston Consulting Group (USA).
Duong Bao Tien - the first graduate of the School of Business and Management, enrolled in VinUni University with a scholarship of up to 100% of tuition fees.
Before embarking on a journey to conquer new horizons, Bao Tien could not help but feel sad when recalling her 4 years at VinUni, including the first days when she first entered the school. Bao Tien said that it was a bet between her and her family because at that time, in 2020, VinUni was a "0-year-old" school and started enrolling its first class.
Previously, the female student of Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Phu Yen) became a phenomenon when she self-studied for the SAT and IELTS standardized tests, groped her way through applying and being accepted to 15 American universities. When she was ready to study abroad, Bao Tien unexpectedly received an invitation to participate in the Special Admissions Program from VinUni.
I applied to VinUni using the form I submitted to American schools. The school quickly called me for an interview, and then I received the admission result with a scholarship of up to 100% of tuition.
"There are many factors that made me choose VinUni: first is the high scholarship, second is a friend who I know is very talented, returned from abroad, also chose to study at VinUni. I decided to bet here with the hope of receiving good influence from talented people. Besides, VinUni is determined to build an elite university and has huge resources from Vingroup, and cooperates with Cornell University and Pennsylvania - 2 Ivy universities in the US, so in terms of quality, it is worth a try", Bao Tien said.
After enrolling, the "try" mentality quickly disappeared. Instead, Tien immediately realized that VinUni was the right choice because in addition to the international standard curriculum, the school also opened up opportunities for students to study at partner schools around the world.
In particular, VinUni is a friendly learning environment with no distance between lecturers and students. With an elite training orientation, the school enrolls very few students, so the teaching staff can devote all their time and passion to caring for each student. And pioneering students like Bao Tien have the opportunity to accompany VinUni to firmly become an excellent university in Vietnam and the world.
From full scholarship in the US to HSBC global business champion
4 years of studying at VinUni has been a busy journey for Duong Bao Tien. As an active student, besides studying, Bao Tien also participates in many extracurricular activities and school projects such as: producing VinMagazine, Gen Z Dictionary, UpYouth project (a project of VinUni students to support young people to start a business).
In her second year of college, Bao Tien applied for and received a full scholarship from the US Government for a one-semester exchange program.
Bao Tien (3rd from left) and a group of VinUni students won the championship of the HSBC Business Case Competition 2024.
"When I came to the US, I did not encounter any difficulties in studying and felt quite familiar because at VinUni, the classroom teaching is also entirely in English, the knowledge and learning methods are similar, some exercises at VinUni are even more difficult. The learning environment at VinUni is very friendly, there is no gap between lecturers and students, so when I came to the US, I still brought with me confidence and was not hesitant when interacting with teachers and students here," Bao Tien shared.
Recently, Duong Bao Tien and a group of VinUni students have excelled over 43 teams from many universities across the country, winning the HSBC Business Case Competition, representing Vietnam to compete with 24 teams from the world's leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region in Hong Kong.
"The competition requires broad and practical knowledge, from how to run a business, or what a CEO would care about... The advantage of the VinUni team is that all 4 members have worked, interned, and done projects, so they have experience and foundation. Besides, there is the support of the advisory board and VinUni lecturers," said Bao Tien.
Looking back on her 4-year journey at VinUni, Bao Tien said that in addition to professional knowledge, she also had the opportunity to practice leadership skills, thinking skills, and learn soft skills through internships and project implementation. She also built a network of talented people to learn from, share life issues, and support each other at work.
VinUni always creates the best experiences in scientific research, practical internships and social responsibility for all students.
"After 4 years, I feel that I have matured a lot, think more thoroughly, become more confident, dare to dream bigger, and think more strategically about the future." Sharing about her "big dream", Bao Tien said that she hopes that in the next 10 to 15 years, she will become a successful and influential businesswoman who can help disadvantaged communities, specifically helping children, the elderly, and the homeless so that they can have a better home and life.
According to Bao Tien, to achieve that goal, she will have to build resources in terms of relationships, finance, etc. because her goal is to build a sustainable operating model that can be replicated throughout Vietnam, not just "blooming early and fading early" or in a narrow scope. "The guiding principle for all those activities is also something I learned from VinUni," Bao Tien excitedly said.
On June 29, VinUni University held a graduation ceremony and awarded bachelor's degrees to 145 students of the first cohort (2020 - 2024). Of which, 25% of the new graduates were accepted for postgraduate training at the world's most prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cornell, Pennsylvania. 32% of the new graduates were offered jobs by leading global corporations such as McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, National Australia Bank, Google, Bosch, IBM... even before graduation.
