Writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu shared that currently, many parents believe that children should not be forced to study heavily in primary school, but on the contrary, there is a tendency for parents to put their children into a learning framework right from the first days of school.
On the afternoon of March 9, at a talk show with the topic "Methods to help children love and learn Vietnamese well", writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu and experts shared about the learning stage of young children in primary school.
"Don't teach your children emotionally!"
Writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu shared that many parents currently believe that children should not be forced to study hard in primary school but should be allowed to play freely. On the contrary, many parents tend to put their children in a learning framework right from the first days of school, otherwise, their children will follow the way of both studying and playing in kindergarten and at higher levels, they will… lose their foundation.
According to writer Hoang Anh Tu, children in primary school need to be encouraged to be creative, innocent, cheerful, and unconventional, but also gradually form disciplined study habits. "Let's work with your children to build the habit of self-study and be responsible for themselves. The spirit of self-study prevents children from being reminded or scolded, and they no longer consider studying a heavy task," said writer Hoang Anh Tu.
According to the writer, primary school years are the golden time for children to form study habits. Knowledge is not much, so forming new habits is important. This will help children develop the habit of self-study in higher years when knowledge is more difficult.
The talk show with the topic "Methods to help children love and learn Vietnamese well" took place on the afternoon of March 9.
Faced with the reality that many parents are still struggling to choose an educational method for their children, writer Hoang Anh Tu expressed his opinion: "Don't teach your children based on emotions!".
According to Mr. Hoang Anh Tu, parents do not need to waste time finding their own learning methods for their children, but should systematically apply the educational methods that have been researched and shared. Education is a science and has been specifically researched with many different methods. Parents' job is to have knowledge, understand their children to choose the educational method and educational environment that is suitable for their children.
Learn Vietnamese creatively
Agreeing with the view that primary school children need to be encouraged to be creative, Master Dinh Phuong Thao, a member of the group of authors of the Canh Buom method, shared that now, the Vietnamese subject in primary schools is not simply a phonetic method, reading practice, writing practice... but students can learn Vietnamese from writing poems, writing diaries, writing simple stories... even writing their own songs with melody.
Regarding learning Vietnamese, writer Hoang Anh Tu said that Vietnamese helps children to be extremely creative, even surprising us adults. Vietnamese helps each child have a foundation to love their homeland and country more. "The Vietnamese language not only brings me but also many other people a brilliant life" - the writer shared.
Finally, writer Hoang Anh Tu asked the question: How can children not be alone in their learning journey? He shared that in his generation, many students had to strive for the achievements of their teachers and schools when they went to school, and when they returned home, they had to study for the pride of their parents. "I hope that today's children will not repeat the pain of our generation's children," the writer expressed.
According to the writer, parents and schools need to have a close connection. A close connection with the school helps us understand our children better during the time we are not with them (when they are at school) and vice versa, the school needs to accompany parents to understand students and have appropriate educational methods for each child. "Let's fulfill the promises of adults when our common goal is children" - writer Hoang Anh Tu expressed his opinion.
