Vingroup Corporation aims to start construction of the Can Gio coastal urban area with a scale of up to 2,870 hectares before April 30, 2025. This content was raised by Vingroup representative in a meeting with Ho Chi Minh City leaders on March 6.

Ms. Cao Thi Ha An - Project Development Director of Vingroup Corporation - said that for the Can Gio coastal urban area project, the corporation has completed some initial legal procedures such as detailed planning 1/500, environmental impact assessment report and then feasibility study report...
According to Ms. An, Vingroup aims to break ground and start construction of the Can Gio coastal urban area project before April 30, 2025.
However, to achieve this timeline, Vingroup Corporation proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant departments speed up the project's progress.
In addition, the group also proposed that the city assign a member unit of Vingroup, Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company, to research and develop an investment project to preserve and develop Can Gio tourism.
The investment project will be built on the basis of ensuring the requirements of environmental protection, forestry, biodiversity conservation of Can Gio biosphere reserve, exploiting tourism potential, turning Can Gio into a new destination of the world.
Responding to the proposal of Vingroup Corporation, Mr. Vo Van Hoan - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - highly appreciated the proposal of Vingroup Corporation related to the development of Can Gio sea tourism, associated with the mangrove biosphere reserve and Can Gio sea-encroaching urban area. The city assigned the relevant agencies to carefully study the proposal.
Regarding the business's wish to start the project before April 30, Mr. Hoan highly appreciated the business's efforts and said that trying to start the project before April 30 will contribute to creating momentum for Ho Chi Minh City.

The Can Gio coastal urban area has been "conceived" for many years. At the beginning of this year, the project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for detailed planning at 1/500 scale.
According to the decision to adjust the investment policy in June 2020, the project's investment scale was increased from 600 hectares to 2,870 hectares. The total investment capital is more than VND 217,050 billion (equivalent to nearly USD 9 billion), of which the owner's equity is nearly VND 33,000 billion. The project will operate for 50 years, with an implementation progress of 11 years.
Can Gio Urban Tourism Joint Stock Company is the investor, expected to implement the project from April 2025. The proposed population size of Can Gio coastal urban tourism area is a maximum of 228,560 people, the scale of tourists in the entire project is about 8.887 million/year.
For this project, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has urged units to complete procedures soon. Recently, some procedures have been accelerated and completed.
The largest sea encroachment project in the country
Can Gio coastal tourist urban area is located in Long Hoa commune and Can Thanh town, Can Gio district. The approved functional zones include 4 zones A, B, C and DE.
In which, subdivision A (953.23ha) is planned as an ecological residential area associated with tourism services at the gateway area of Can Gio coastal urban tourism area.
Sub-area B (659.87ha) is a residential area, resort tourism, urban public service works (healthcare, education, administrative headquarters, commercial services, offices...). This is also an urban green area, a technical infrastructure hub.
Zone C (318.32ha) is the financial, economic, commercial, service, office and port center, a modern urban area including residential areas (townhouses, villas, high-rise buildings).
Zone D (480.46ha) is a commercial center, high-class resort, modern urban area and zone E (458.12ha) is water surface, canal and green trees.
According to the planning of Ho Chi Minh City in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Can Gio district will become an ecological urban area, preserving the biosphere reserve, focusing on developing the marine economy, especially the transit port and free trade zone; logistics transportation, tourism, marine ecological urban area and renewable energy. In addition to the Can Gio sea-encroaching urban area project, Ho Chi Minh City will also call for investment in the Can Gio international transit port project, with a total investment of about 6 billion USD.
