The picture of post-secondary education in the world in recent years has been quite exciting, witnessing many old universities merging and many new universities being formed. Up to now, how many universities are there in total in each country?
Higher education refers to all programs and types of training after high school graduation, in which continuing to university is a popular choice in the world. In addition to 4-year universities, the post-secondary education system often includes colleges (training for 2-3 years) and many other types of educational institutions, depending on each country and territory.
How many universities do Western countries have?
International media recently reported that Australia officially has a new university. That is the Australian College of Theology, which will soon change its name to Australian University of Theology (AUT) in order to comply with new regulations. Thus, Australia will soon have 44 universities, including 38 public units (including the University of Adelaide based on the merger of two universities as Thanh Nien reported) and 5 private units (including Torrens University, the only international school).
Compared to Australia, the neighboring country New Zealand has a more modest number of universities, only 8. According to Education New Zealand (ENZ), the 8 schools mentioned above are all public universities and the country currently has no private universities.
