Mr. Pham Manh Hung, Director of Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, said that from January 25, the 9-day Tet holiday begins.
The peak travel period will take place from January 20 to February 4. It is expected that the number of passengers passing through the bus station during peak times will increase by about 250 - 350% compared to normal days.

My Dinh bus station has about 22,000 trips/day, an increase of more than 350%. It is expected that the station will serve more than 950 trips per day, mainly on the routes of Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, Cao Bang.
At Gia Lam bus station, the highest number of passengers is about 5,000 per day, an increase of 250% compared to normal days, the expected number of buses is 400 per day, concentrated on routes such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang...
Mr. Vuong Duy Dung, Deputy Director of My Dinh Bus Station, said that according to reports from businesses, this year, Tet bus ticket prices will not increase. However, people should go to the station to buy tickets, not catch buses along the way, to avoid paying higher costs and risking safety.
At Nuoc Ngam bus station, Mr. Trinh Hoai Lam, Deputy Director of the station, said that the number of passengers is expected to concentrate on the routes of Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh. The number of passengers is likely to increase by 140 - 150% compared to normal days, the bus station plans to add 100 buses to the provinces.
Tickets sold out as soon as they went on sale.
An Phu Quy bus company staff at Nuoc Ngam bus station said that all tickets for the Hanoi - Nghe An route from January 21 to 26 (December 22 to 27 of the lunar calendar) have been sold out. For the Hanoi - Thanh Hoa route, the number of tickets left is very small, only about 1 - 2 individual tickets depending on the time frame.
A representative of the Hanoi Department of Transport said that they have requested bus stations to strictly inspect and control vehicles entering and leaving the station to pick up and drop off passengers. Bus stations must clearly post ticket prices for each route, at the correct approved prices.
Bus operators must declare and post prices, absolutely must not take advantage of high passenger volume to increase prices, collect higher than declared prices and make price plans according to reasonable costs incurred.
Currently, Van Minh bus company also has very few tickets left for peak days from January 20 to 27, although the company has an average of 34 trips per day departing from stations in the city. Some buses still have empty seats, but they are mostly seats. Sleeper buses on peak days are full early.
On the very first day (December 18, 2024) of selling bus tickets to the Central provinces during Tet, after only a few hours of online sales, about 90% of the tickets were sold out.
At My Dinh bus station, bus tickets for the Hanoi - Nghe An route from January 22 to 26 of Nhuan Nam bus company have all been sold out.
Explaining this situation, representatives of many bus companies said that this year's Lunar New Year holiday is long and starts early, along with the high price of plane and train tickets, so the demand for travel has also increased.
Many routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Central region are sold out.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Tran Van Phuong, Deputy General Director of Mien Tay Bus Station Joint Stock Company, said that during the peak Tet holiday this year, the station is expected to increase the number of vehicles by over 3% compared to the same period in 2024.
Of which, 10 days before Tet are expected to have nearly 16,500 trips with more than 437,000 passengers. 10 days after Tet, there will be more than 17,200 trips with more than 323,000 passengers.

Regarding ticket prices, routes to the Mekong Delta provinces will increase by no more than 40% compared to normal days, the price increase period is from December 26 to January 2.
At the old Mien Dong bus station (Binh Thanh district) and the new Mien Dong bus station (Thu Duc city), Tet tickets are being sold out. Many routes have even sold out during peak days.
A representative of the new Eastern Bus Station said that the total number of tickets planned to be sold during the 10 peak days of Tet is 90,000. The unit has sold 48,489 tickets, including 48,032 sleeper tickets and 457 seats.
Currently, sleeper bus tickets for routes in the Central region such as Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen... are sold out on peak days (from December 24 to 27). To serve passengers, the units have increased about 300 vehicles.
Passengers are expected to gradually increase from January 15 (December 16). During the peak of Tet, output can reach more than 500 vehicles/day with about 13,000 passengers.
At the old Eastern bus station, the number of passengers during peak season is expected to be from 17,000 - 19,000 per day.
Regarding ticket prices, both Eastern Bus Stations encourage businesses not to increase. In case of adjustment to compensate for empty buses, it should not exceed 40 - 60% compared to normal days.
Many free buses take workers home
To support workers and laborers in difficult circumstances to return home for Tet, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation coordinated with units to organize the program "Ticket of love - Spring of union", bringing 500 union member households back home for Tet with a total estimated cost of more than 4.1 billion VND.
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union is also launching the "Bring Tet Home" program, providing more than 5,000 free air and car tickets for students, young workers and laborers living far from home in difficult circumstances.
