The Ministry of Construction has just sent a document to the National Assembly Delegation of Soc Trang province in response to the petition of voters of this province regarding the repair of National Highway 61B.
According to voters in Soc Trang province, National Highway 61B, from Nga Nam town to Phu Loc town, Thanh Tri district, connecting with National Highway 1A, in the 2026-2030 period, is deteriorating and severely damaged. The narrow road surface does not ensure traffic safety. Therefore, voters recommend that the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) pay attention to investing in upgrading the above road.
The Ministry of Construction said that in 2025, the Ministry will allocate about 15.2 billion VND to invest in repairing some sections of National Highway 61B through Soc Trang due to damage and degradation (illustrative photo).
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, National Highway 61B has its starting point at the intersection with National Highway 61 (in Vinh Tuong, Hau Giang province); its end point is at the intersection with Nam Song Hau road, 74km long, grade III road scale, 2 - 4 lanes. The section through Soc Trang province is about 54km long.
Of which, the current section of about 28km has been invested to meet the standards of grade III - IV roads, 2 lanes and 5 weak bridges have been invested to replace since 2018; the section from the intersection with National Highway 1 in Phu Loc town, Thanh Tri district to the intersection with Nam Song Hau road (National Highway 91B) in Vinh Chau town, about 26km long, has not been invested according to the plan.
Recently, the Ministry of Construction has directed the Vietnam Road Administration to carry out regular maintenance to basically meet the travel needs of the people and invest in repairing some damaged and degraded sections of the road using the capital source for road economic activities.
Specifically, in 2023, about 12.04 billion VND will be allocated, in 2024, about 16.7 billion VND will be allocated, and in 2025, about 15.2 billion VND will continue to be allocated.
The Ministry of Construction agrees with the proposal of voters of Soc Trang province on the necessity of investing in and upgrading National Highway 61B from Nga Nam town to Phu Loc town to meet the transportation and economic development needs of Soc Trang province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.
However, due to resource difficulties, it has not been possible to allocate capital to invest in the routes in the 2021 - 2025 period.
"The Ministry of Construction acknowledges the voters' recommendations and will coordinate with the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to review and hand over national highways to be decentralized to the provincial People's Committee for management and report to competent authorities for consideration and investment in upgrading and expanding the routes in the period 2026 - 2030," the Ministry of Construction added.
