VHO - Thua Thien Hue will organize many meaningful activities on Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, November 23, including the ceremony to receive the UNESCO certificate recognizing the Documentary Heritage "Reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in Hue Royal Palace".
According to Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, meaningful events and activities are held on Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day at the Hue heritage site to honor the heritage and spread to the community about the preservation and promotion of Hue cultural heritage values. At the Dai Trieu yard, Thai Hoa Palace, Hue Imperial City, Thua Thien Hue province will organize a reception for the UNESCO certificate recognizing the documentary heritage "The reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in Hue Royal Palace". This heritage was honored by UNESCO as a documentary heritage of the Asia-Pacific region on May 8, 2024 at the meeting in Ulan Bator (Mongolia). This is the 10th documentary heritage of Vietnam.
The nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Imperial Palace, also known as the Nine Tripod Cauldrons, were cast during the reign of King Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty, placed in front of the courtyard of The To Mieu Temple and remain intact to this day, never repaired or moved. On these nine bronze cauldrons, there are 162 reliefs (positive plates) including images and Chinese characters; in which are engraved many images of very real and familiar landscapes to the Vietnamese people stretching from North to South, creating a beautiful natural picture of the country, such as: Stars, mountains, rivers, estuaries, territorial waters, passes, trees, flowers, animals, weapons, vehicles, boats, etc. This is a unique and rare source of information that is of great interest to Vietnamese and foreign researchers because it carries historical, cultural - educational, geographical, feng shui, medical, and calligraphy values. Previously, in 2012, the Nine Tripod Cauldrons were recognized as a National Treasure.
Right after the program to receive the UNESCO recognition certificate for the Documentary Heritage "The reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Royal Palace", the Hue Monuments Conservation Center also organized the announcement of the completion of the project "Conservation and overall restoration of the Thai Hoa Palace" and opened to visitors. This is the most important relic under the Nguyen Dynasty, an attractive destination attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists to visit and learn. Since the end of 2021, this relic has been dismantled for restoration with a budget of nearly 129 billion VND. Up to now, it has been completed 9 months ahead of schedule, ensuring strict requirements and regulations in the work of preserving cultural heritage. After completing the project, the professional force also moved the National Treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty Throne, back to its original position in the Thai Hoa Palace to serve the public.
Before this event, visitors will also be able to watch the dramatization of the Ceremony of Offering a Memorial to Celebrate the Completion of Thai Hoa Palace and the Royal Court's Awards. The program lasts more than 20 minutes, with the participation of about 130 actors and artists from the Hue Royal Traditional Arts Theater. The leaders of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center informed that also on Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, Thua Thien Hue province will also break ground on the project "Restoration, restoration and embellishment of Can Chanh Palace" with a budget of nearly 200 billion VND from the local budget. Can Chanh Palace, along with Thai Hoa Palace, Kien Trung Palace... are all important works located on the sacred axis of Hue Citadel. The completion of the restoration of Kien Trung Palace by the end of 2023, Thai Hoa Palace in November 2024, and the continued restoration and renovation of Can Chanh Palace... will open a "new page" contributing to restoring the appearance of the Hue Imperial City heritage site. Can Chanh Palace will be renovated and restored within 4 years with the architectural scale and interior and exterior decoration under the reign of King Khai Dinh. This project was built during the reign of King Gia Long, had been repaired about 20 times, large and small, and was destroyed in 1947, only the foundation remains.
Also on November 23, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thua Thien Hue province also held a ceremony to receive the title of national intangible cultural heritage "Knowledge of sewing and wearing Hue Ao Dai". Hue Ao Dai has unique and distinctive features, bearing the historical and cultural significance of the ancient capital.
