International visitors experience beautiful scenery and fresh air at Hue heritage site
In the journey to build a green - clean - bright city, the implementation of solutions to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco has also been carried out by Hue city at all levels, sectors and fields. In particular, the Complex of Hue Monuments is promoting the construction of a model of "smoke-free destination".
According to Van Hoa , every day in the Hue Imperial Palace area, thousands of tourists visit, learn about and experience cultural products. At the entrance/exit areas of the relic sites, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has installed additional "no smoking area" signs in locations that are easy for tourists to see and access.
In addition, security guards at relic sites are also assigned to promote smoking bans, especially in areas of worship. When detecting visitors smoking, the staff will remind them to be polite and behave culturally. At relic sites such as The Mieu, Trieu Mieu or relic sites with a large number of visitors such as Thai Hoa Palace, Kien Trung Palace... visitors have paid attention to the notices and are not allowed to smoke.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong from Binh Duong visited Hue relics in the first days of the new year and shared: “The space in Hue Imperial City is very green, airy, creating a comfortable feeling for visitors. When arriving at the relic sites, we saw signs saying “no smoking” and almost all visitors followed them quite well. This has contributed to creating a safe and civilized environment in tourism.”
Many international tourists visiting the Hue Imperial Citadel Heritage Site also expressed their satisfaction and impression with the landscape and fresh environment, unaffected by cigarette smoke. In recent times, many fires and explosions at relic sites have caused many impacts, the construction of a smoke-free destination at the Hue Heritage Site also contributes to preventing the risk of fires and explosions at relic sites.
Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that recently the construction of a "smoke-free destination" at the Hue heritage site has been actively implemented. The Center has established a Steering Committee for the prevention of tobacco harms, in which representatives of departments, offices, and affiliated units participate.
At relic sites and workplaces, the unit has placed signs with the message “no smoking”, “no smoking”…; organized propaganda, mobilized tourists to respond. Especially spread so that tour guides can share this information with tourists, join hands to build a green and safe environment at Hue heritage site.
“We also request that service points at relics belonging to the Hue Monuments Complex be prohibited from organizing the sale, advertising, and introduction of tobacco. The Center also refuses funding from businesses and individuals related to tobacco advertising...”, Mr. Phan Van Tuan informed.
From 2022, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will select the Hue heritage site as a pilot smoke-free model and organize training and propaganda activities for staff on duty at the relic sites. In addition to implementing solutions in the relic area, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center also strictly prohibits employees from smoking in the office; propagates and disseminates the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms and encourages employees to limit or quit smoking...
The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province - now the People's Committee of Hue city has issued a Plan to implement the national strategy on tobacco harm prevention and control until 2030. In particular, the goal in the period of 2026-2030 is to reduce the rate of passive exposure to tobacco smoke in the workplace to below 25%; in restaurants to below 65%; in bars and cafes to below 70%; in hotels to below 50%...
The Hue City People's Committee requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to deploy a plan to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco throughout the industry, and strictly direct the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of the Harmful Effects of Tobacco in agencies and units under the management of the industry. At the same time, coordinate the implementation of communication, training, inspection and supervision activities...; participate in inter-sectoral inspection of the implementation of the Law on Prevention and Control of the Harmful Effects of Tobacco, especially focusing on entertainment areas, tourist areas, relics... with many visitors.
A smoke-free tourist attraction is a public place for sightseeing and tourism purposes, where smoking, tobacco sales, or marketing are prohibited throughout the entire premises (including indoor and outdoor areas).
Implementing a smoke-free tourism model aims to create a clean and safe environment, ensuring the rights of non-smokers to breathe fresh air without tobacco smoke; at the same time, reducing the risk of fire and explosion, protecting the tourist landscape, creating a civilized tourism environment, attracting tourists; reducing the rate of tobacco use and reducing the rate of illness and death caused by smoking...
Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism emphasized: “Hue is a green, clean, cultural city, worthy of being a tourist destination that tourists will choose based on clean, green products. This trend is based on human needs, the desire to find useful values, beneficial for health, physical and mental health. Cultural and environmental values that bring practical benefits to tourists are the criteria that Hue currently has.”
