On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Hanoi Old Quarter being ranked as a National Historical Relic, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter organized 20 exhibitions, displays and art performances to honor heritage values.
Thang Long, a thousand years of culture, is made up of two parts: the royal living and working area, the Imperial Citadel, and the residential area, the Hanoi Old Quarter.
Therefore, the Old Quarter has a special position in the development process of Thang Long-Hanoi. Over the years, Hanoi Old Quarter is now located in Hoan Kiem district, where hundreds of ancient architectural houses are still preserved, with traditional craft streets, specialized streets, many historical, cultural and architectural relics associated with the history of the land of Thang Long-Dong Do-Hanoi.
In addition to its tangible values, Hanoi's Old Quarter also has many unique intangible cultural values.
In 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranked Hanoi Old Quarter as a National Historical Site in 2004.
Realizing that Hanoi's Old Quarter has special value in the heart of the capital, Hoan Kiem district has carried out many activities to preserve and promote its value in recent years.
To celebrate the 19th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23, 2005 - November 23, 2024), the 20th anniversary of Hanoi's Old Quarter being recognized as a National Historical Site, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter coordinated with units and individuals to organize a series of 20 activities, including: Displays, exhibitions, art performances, discussions...

Some typical activities in the program series include: Exhibition with the theme "Dong Ta" introducing the history, Dong Son culture, the bronze casting and crafting profession of Vietnamese people from ancient times to today (Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center, No. 50, Dao Duy Tu Street); Exhibition of the space of a family of ancient Hanoians practicing Oriental medicine, with the theme "Stories of Hang Street" (Heritage House No. 87, Ma May Street), Exhibition introducing the achievements of 20 years of Hanoi Old Quarter receiving the certificate of national historical relic...
The group of outstanding performance activities includes: Traditional - contemporary heritage concert, "That's the Story" art performance, "Hang Street Story" real-life tour program, exhibition program, art performance and experience activities, introducing Craft Villages - Craft Streets: Bat Trang pottery, Dinh Cong silver beans, My Duc embroidery, Chuong village hats, Phung Xa silk, Old Quarter green rice flakes...
In addition, there are also a number of seminars such as: Seminar "Vietnamese Bronze Drums from Dong Son-Thanh Hoa to Dong Son culture" - Introducing bronze drums through archaeological history; Seminar "Unique features of traditional fine arts and application, recreating cultural values in contemporary architecture"... and many other unique cultural and artistic activities.
The activities will take place from now until early December 2024, with the main activities taking place this weekend, November 23 and 24, in various spaces in the Old Quarter. Through these activities, the Organizing Committee hopes to introduce to the public some of the cultural heritage values of the Old Quarter in particular, and Vietnamese cultural heritages in general, thereby calling on the community to join hands with the government in protecting and promoting heritage values, in conjunction with the orientation of developing the cultural industry.
