In the middle of the majestic Kon Tum forest is the dream home of a Tay ethnic woman, Hoang Ly. It is a farm called Mountain Farmers, covering more than 2 hectares and specializing in growing all kinds of vegetables and fruits using organic farming methods.

Positive startup direction

Born and raised in Kon Tum, Hoang Ly clearly realizes that her homeland has a lot of potential but the people have not exploited and developed agriculture properly, so they are still poor and suffering a lot. She hopes that one day she can share and contribute with the people, especially the women farmers, who are still working hard every day on the fields but their lives are still precarious, sometimes hungry, sometimes full, without any savings.

Thinking and then starting to do, Hoang Ly was determined to realize the project of creating an organic agricultural production area in the community where she lives. With the desire to enrich herself and bring livelihoods to her fellow countrymen, to disadvantaged women in the remote, mountainous countryside of Kon Jodri village, Dak Ro Wa commune - Kon Tum city.

Having graduated from university with a major in environment, more or less related to agriculture, the research and finding a direction for the project was somewhat favorable. Hoang Ly started to find sources of seedlings and seeds from local people to bring back to plant in her home garden. Step by step, she screened and preserved good varieties, with valuable, endemic genes, not crossbred or transformed like the vegetables, tubers and fruits currently available in the area. Then she found sources of land, labor, and cooperated with farmers to produce agricultural products in accordance with the season. The top criteria is not to use toxic chemicals such as: herbicides, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth stimulants, and not to use preservatives after harvest.

Hoang Ly said that at first, the capital was small, she had to run around in all directions, mainly taking advantage of her labor, learning while working, accumulating experience, and gradually building the foundation. The process of mobilizing people around her to cooperate and participate was not easy. Hoang Ly's way was that farmers had land and labor, she provided seedlings, seeds, fertilizers, and farming techniques. When harvesting, the products were divided in half. Not everyone believed in this direction, and even criticized them. However, she was always confident, accepting challenges every day to rise up. Hoang Ly said : "If anyone follows me, I will work with them, share with them, continue to find and convince other households to maintain the project."

Hoang Ly’s positive and modern startup direction was also supported and joined by friends on social networks from the very beginning, they became her product distribution points in Ho Chi Minh City. That was one of the advantages for her to develop her project better.

Show affection to villagers

With the goal of organic agricultural production, Hoang Ly's agricultural production company Mountain Farmers is successfully applying the organic farming method in a circular direction. Taking advantage of natural fertilizer sources from coffee husks, rice husk ash, bean dregs and plant residues from the garden as a source of fertilizer. All production processes here are carried out naturally, without the intervention of any chemicals. Products made at the farm are highly appreciated by consumers for their quality, green vegetables always retain their delicious flavor and are rich in nutrients.

Hoang Ly said that using organic fertilizers also helps improve the soil, increase humus, make the soil loose and airy, creating a favorable environment for plants to grow naturally and sustainably. At the same time, choosing native plant varieties and not using genetically modified varieties also contributes to protecting biodiversity for crops.

After nearly 10 years of starting a business, Hoang Ly has now developed a farm of more than 2 hectares with an annual revenue of over 1 billion VND, creating stable jobs for 22 employees, mainly women from ethnic minorities in the region such as Ba Na, Xo Dang, Gia Rai... In addition, she also cooperates with more than 20 farming households to grow rice, corn, potatoes and other vegetables and fruits in the area.

Many people see Hoang Ly as a strong-willed woman, the work she does is not simply for economic purposes but also a way to express her affection for the villagers. It can be said that she has taken the right steps in changing the thinking and working style of ethnic minorities in Kon Jodri village. In addition, Hoang Ly also does a good job in social work, she calls for volunteers to come to the village to support the villagers with afforestation projects, teach foreign languages and other subjects...

Women who work as employees or cooperate with Hoang Ly's company are shared useful knowledge and skills about planting, caring for, and harvesting according to food safety methods. Thanks to that, they can produce at home to increase their income and improve their family life.

At Mountain Farmers, there are many women who have been working for 6 to 8 years. Among them, there are women who can only read, some who have finished 9th grade... and were encouraged by Hoang Ly, some have tried to continue studying until they finish university... There are even women who have not held a pen for a long time but now can fluently write reports and data every day and gradually become more organized in their lives. Those simple things are the great joy that helps Hoang Ly believe in her direction. She expressed: "I always hope that we, women with warm hearts, will together make the world more beautiful".
