Van Lang is a purely agricultural commune of Ha Hoa district, agricultural production accounts for a large proportion in the local economic structure. In particular, squash is a strong crop of the commune, grown on a large area, bringing much economic value.

Since 2003, Van Lang commune only had a few acres of experimental green squash, gradually expanding the area to several hectares, up to now the commune's green squash growing area has reached nearly 100 hectares, with a stable yield of 4,000 tons/crop.

Green squash is grown a lot in Van Lang commune, Ha Hoa district.

Realizing the potential and advantages of the locality in developing green squash growing areas, but the output of the product is always unstable in terms of price and poor product quality, therefore, since 2020, Duy Khanh Construction and Agricultural Transport Service Cooperative has cooperated with 147 households to cultivate over 30 hectares of green squash according to VietGAP standards. Through that, to create, manage and develop the collective brand "Van Lang Green Squash" for safe green squash products of Van Lang commune.

With the goal of protecting the health of consumers and producers, the planting process is always strictly controlled from seed selection, plant care, irrigation to harvest. Many households have boldly applied science and technology to serve production in the direction of high-tech agriculture, helping to increase productivity, meeting the taste for clean and safe vegetables of today's consumers. In addition, some households also make nets instead of manually planting seedlings as before, helping to save labor.

In 2023, Van Lang green squash products will be recognized as 3-star OCOP products, affirming the prestige and quality of typical local agricultural products.

After being recognized as an OCOP product with great consumption potential, Duy Khanh Construction and Agricultural Transport Service Cooperative expanded production, built a production and consumption chain linking green squash in the district. After many times of research and exploration, the Cooperative came up with the solution of "Producing cold-dried green squash tea" locally.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Doanh - representative of Duy Khanh Agricultural Construction and Transportation Service Cooperative said: With traditional habits, farmers in Van Lang commune often slice green squash and dry it under the sun for 3 to 4 days to create the product "Dried green squash tea". It is a healthy drink, but if dried like that, during the drying process, the erratic rainy weather will affect the quality and nutritional value of the product. Therefore, the Cooperative has produced the product "Cold-dried green squash tea". The implementation process includes 6 steps: Selecting the product source, washing, slicing, putting it into the Mactech dryer to perform the cold-drying method; roasting until golden brown, burying in the ground and packaging.

Van Lang Green Pumpkin Tea product was introduced at the Conference on cooperation and tourism development of 8 extended Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.

After freeze-drying, green pumpkin tea can be cooked with pandan leaves, stevia or rock sugar, making it a delicious and healthy drink. In the near future, to make it more convenient for consumers, Duy Khanh Construction and Agricultural Transportation Services Cooperative is researching the production process of freeze-dried green pumpkin tea in filter bags, making it more convenient to use the product and expanding the consumption market.

Comrade Truong Ba Xuan - Vice Chairman of Van Lang Commune People's Committee said: Along with Van Lang green squash product recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in 2023, in 2024, the commune will have two more products recognized as OCOP products, which are Van Lang green squash tea and Thieu Quang Hung rice noodles. In particular, the production of cold-dried green squash tea has initially been linked to the consumption and processing of agricultural products, increasing the value of agricultural products, creating more jobs for local workers. The value of cold-dried green squash products has increased by about 200% compared to before processing...

Van Lang green squash, bearing the rich flavor of the Motherland Au Co, is increasingly known and welcomed by consumers nationwide. This is the lever for Duy Khanh Agricultural Construction and Transportation Service Cooperative to continue to stabilize and develop, improve product quality, expand production of new products, and affirm its brand reputation with customers.
