Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that working with Russian President Vladimir Putin was an invaluable experience, noting that the Russian Head of State was in many ways a “teacher” for him.

“I am lucky, it has been 20 years since I started working directly with a person who can be considered my teacher. I mean Putin,” Peskov said at the Terra Scientia National Youth Education Forum, state news agency TASS reported on August 3.

Mr Putin's press secretary outlined how the Russian leader conducts negotiations – which are not always public – and how he defends his views.

“The way he uses arguments, the way he convinces his interlocutors, the way he sometimes has to say unpleasant things to someone – this is invaluable experience for me. And I really learned a lot from him,” Mr. Peskov concluded.

Born in 1967 in Moscow, Dmitry Sergeyevich Peskov began his diplomatic career in 1989, immediately after graduating from the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, with a degree in Oriental History and Translation.

In addition to his native Russian, Mr. Peskov is fluent in English, Turkish and Arabic.

He worked at the Russian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey from 1990-1994 and 1996-2000. From 2000-2004, Mr. Peskov headed the Public Relations Department and was Deputy Press Secretary of Russian President Putin.

When Mr. Putin was re-elected President for a second term in 2004-2008, Mr. Peskov worked as the first deputy press secretary of the Russian President.

From 2008 to 2012, when Mr. Putin was Prime Minister of Russia, Mr. Peskov was appointed as the Prime Minister's Press Secretary and Deputy Head of the Government Office.

In 2012, when Mr. Putin returned to the Kremlin, Mr. Peskov became Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian President's Office. Since then, the veteran diplomat has continued to work as the Russian President's Press Secretary, and is often known as the Kremlin Spokesman.

Since Mr Putin launched a “special military operation” in Ukraine, Mr Peskov has made several important statements on behalf of the Russian president about the conflict and relations between Russia and the West.

Along with Mr Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Mr Peskov was put on the EU, UK, US and Australia's "blacklist" of sanctions and had his assets frozen abroad.

The US also sanctioned Mr Peskov's wife, Tatiana Navka, and his two children, Nikolai Peskov and Elizaveta Peskova .
