(GLO)- Not only is he a painter of extremely sharp murals, Mr. Dinh Iu (born in 1988, Chu Ma village, Ia Trok commune, Ia Pa district, Gia Lai province) also surprises many people with his talent for composing music.

From the art of mural painting

We met Dinh Iu while he was diligently creating works on the wall of a coffee shop in Ayun Pa town. Standing, bending, kneeling, and crawling on the ground, the vivid images made the monotonous wall lively and highly artistic. Sharing about his fate in this profession, Dinh Iu recalled the difficult times of his childhood.

He believes that without the guidance, support and care of teachers at the Provincial College of Culture and Arts (now Gia Lai College), there would be no painter Dinh Iu today. Passionate about drawing since childhood but due to difficult family circumstances, he only knew how to use tree branches and bricks as brushes to draw on sand and house walls. When he was old enough to go to school, when the school organized drawing competitions, Dinh Iu always won high rankings with beautiful, sharp paintings that surprised and admired teachers and friends.

The day he received the admission notice to the Painting major at the Provincial College of Culture and Arts, Dinh Iu was so happy that he cried and ran home to show his mother, but the only answer he received was "Where is the money to study?" However, with a burning passion, the young man was determined to go beyond the bamboo fence of the village. After 2 weeks of school, his mother and brother went to the dormitory to pack their belongings and bring them back because the family was in financial difficulty. Feeling sorry for the poor student, the teachers took him in and helped him. Then, while studying and working part-time, in 2010, Dinh Iu graduated and was accepted to work at the Department of Culture and Information of Dak Doa district.

To unleash his creativity, 2 years later, Mr. Dinh Iu quit his job and started his own business as a mural painter. According to him, mural painting requires the artist to know how to choose the right theme, understand the technology of color mixing and composition, and have a creative mind to fully express the content and spirit of the painting. An impressive interior space with unique murals will create a pleasant and comfortable feeling. "My murals not only convey the beauty of my homeland but also carry messages of life that are easy for people to accept. Most importantly, the artist himself is free to express his personality in his own way," Mr. Dinh Iu shared.

In addition to painting murals, in his spare time, he also paints paintings to display at home or give to friends as souvenirs. His paintings often have simple content, depicting daily life in the village. Among them is the painting "De Market" displayed at the "Sac Nui" art exhibition organized by the Provincial Youth Union in December 2018. This painting was completed in 2 days, inspired by the day he followed his mother to the village market to buy vegetables. The work not only depicts the bustling trading scene in the countryside market but also expresses the peace and warmth through the artist's perspective and soul.

With the desire to inspire children's passion for painting, Mr. Dinh Iu opened a painting class in the village. For children in difficult circumstances, he teaches for free and gives them extra colors and brushes, helping them have more motivation to pursue their dreams. In his free time, he also follows volunteer groups to villages to give gifts and paint pictures for children. "My biggest dream is to establish a club of people who are passionate about painting to develop the art of street mural painting, both beautifying urban spaces, promoting local tourism development, and at the same time conveying meaningful messages to everyone" - Mr. Dinh Iu confided.

Come to music composition

Not only passionate about painting, Mr. Dinh Iu also has a great love for music. He said that during a tour in Da Nang City organized by the Provincial College of Culture and Arts, he composed his first song "A Time by the Blue Sea" which surprised the teachers at the school and they agreed to arrange the music for him. The long time performing in the villages also created opportunities for him to compose many compositions about his homeland. Among them, some compositions were well received and highly appreciated by many people such as: Wherever I go, I remember Ayun Pa, Ayun Pa who has ever visited, Pleiku love of the great forest... These compositions were all arranged by musician Phi Ung of the band Bazan.

“Who has ever visited the homeland of Ayun Pa/The blue sky, the ripe rice fields/The swallows flying everywhere/Who has ever visited the beloved Ayun Pa/The long rainy summer, the long sunny winter…”. The simple and familiar lyrics in the song “Who has ever visited Ayun Pa” help Dinh Iu convey the beauty and love of the homeland to everyone. “Music, like painting, always requires artists to have passion and constantly create. It cannot be called a success, but for me, each painting, each song is a brainchild, a means to help me convey emotions and meaningful messages to the public. I can sit all day with a piece of paper or roll, crawl, and slither along the walls, because then I can be myself, freely “burn” with passion” - Dinh Iu expressed.

Mr. Truong Nhu De - Chairman of Ayun Pa Literature and Arts Club - commented: As the youngest member of Ayun Pa Literature and Arts Club, Dinh Iu is loved and admired by many people for his passion and artistic talent. Every quarter, the Club publishes a magazine to introduce the works of its members to the public. Hopefully, with his passion and constant creativity, Dinh Iu will continue to create many valuable works, imbued with the breath of life, contributing to the overall development of the local art scene.
