Tomorrow morning, June 28, candidates taking the high school graduation exam this year will take one of two combined exams: natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) or social sciences (history, geography, civics), each subject has a test time of 50 minutes.
This is also the last year that the high school graduation exam will have a combined exam. According to the high school graduation exam project from 2025, there will only be independent exams.
When taking the combined test, candidates need to remember the specific regulations of this test.
Because the combined exam has up to 3 components with specific test times for each subject, the Ministry of Education and Training also gives special notes when taking the combined exam.
In the combined exam, the component subjects must have the same test code. When receiving the test for each component subject, candidates must check the test code. If the test code does not match, they must immediately notify the invigilator within 5 minutes from the time the test is distributed to receive the appropriate test code.
When the time for the last component test of the candidate in the combined test session is over, the invigilator will collect the multiple-choice answer sheet.
During the combined exam, candidates are not allowed to write down content or leave any signs related to the exam on any papers, documents, or other items other than scratch paper (signed by the exam supervisor).
During the break between two component exams of the combined exam, candidates who have taken the previous component exam, if they have a reasonable need, will be considered and allowed by the exam invigilator to leave the exam room.
Candidates must place the multiple-choice answer sheet with the filled-in answer sheet facing down on the table at the candidate's seat; the second invigilator is responsible for monitoring to ensure that no other candidates interfere with or take advantage of the candidate's answer sheet; candidates must be under the supervision and must follow the instructions of the invigilator when outside the examination room.
When bringing the Atlas into the examination room to use during the geography component of the social science combined exam, the candidate must clearly write his/her full name and registration number on the cover page of the Atlas and submit it to the invigilator for inspection; the invigilator will return the Atlas to the candidate at the beginning of the geography exam and collect it immediately after the end of the exam, only returning it to the candidate after the candidate has completed his/her last exam in the combined exam.
Also in the combined exam, there will be many independent candidates who only take 1 or 2 components of this exam. Therefore, the exam sites need to arrange a waiting room for candidates before the next exams. This waiting room must also be strictly monitored like the exam room because if candidates use documents, phones or items that are not allowed in the exam room in the waiting room, they will also be suspended from the exam.
Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training show that the number of candidates choosing the social science exam is overwhelming compared to the natural science exam. Specifically, this year, only 37% of candidates chose the natural science exam, the remaining 63% chose the social science exam.
This year's high school graduation exam has 1,071,393 candidates registered nationwide (an increase of more than 45,000 candidates compared to 2023).
Candidates will take the exam at 2,323 exam locations (an increase of 51 locations compared to 2023) with 45,149 exam rooms.
