(Dan Tri) - Released videos have shown fierce fighting between Russian and Ukrainian military forces on the Kursk front.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on February 6 that its troops had repelled a large-scale offensive launched by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. The attack focused on Russian positions southeast of the town of Sudzha.

The Russian military said the offensive involved two mechanized battalions with dozens of armored vehicles, concentrated around the villages of Ulanok and Cherkassya Konopelka, about 9km southeast of Sudzha.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian forces advanced towards Russian positions in several waves, but failed to capture the settlements. At least six tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, three assault vehicles and 14 other armored vehicles were destroyed.

The Russian military did not announce Ukrainian personnel losses in this attack.

Videos shared online show Ukrainian troops advancing in large convoys of engineering vehicles, tanks and other armored vehicles. The convoys were repeatedly attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), many of which were disabled or destroyed.

The Russian Defense Ministry also released a short video showing an FPV drone attacking Ukrainian tanks during the Kursk offensive. The video shows multiple tanks, armored vehicles, and engineering vehicles being hit as they advance toward Russian positions.

Russian UAV attacks Ukrainian armored vehicles in Kursk

Ukraine launched an offensive in the Kursk region in early August last year, taking control of several settlements near the town of Sudzha.

By the end of January, Ukrainian forces controlled 442 square kilometers of Russian territory in Kursk, three times less than at the height of the Kursk operation. When the assault on Kursk began in August 2024, Ukraine claimed to have controlled 1,300 square kilometers in two weeks.

The Ukrainian-held territory in Kursk has gradually shrunk as Moscow has retaken much of the area. However, Ukrainian forces continue to push deeper into Russian territory.

According to the latest estimates from Moscow, Kiev has suffered heavy casualties since the start of the Kursk offensive. Russia says 58,000 Ukrainian servicemen were killed or wounded, with more than 330 tanks, more than 240 infantry fighting vehicles and nearly 200 armoured personnel carriers destroyed in the Kursk operation.

Meanwhile, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian forces have suffered nearly 40,000 casualties, including more than 16,000 deaths, in the six months since Ukraine launched its offensive in Kursk province.

Ukrainian forces announced the capture of 909 Russian soldiers, expanded prisoner exchanges and facilitated the return of hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen. As of February 5, Ukraine said Russia had lost a large amount of military equipment in the Kursk operation, including 131 tanks, 689 armored vehicles, 386 artillery systems and more than 900 drones.
