Russia ambushed and destroyed a Ukrainian convoy in Kursk

(Dan Tri) - Russia released a video recording the scene of its attack and destruction of a Ukrainian military convoy in Kursk.

On March 10, the Russian Ministry of Defense posted the moment it destroyed a Ukrainian military convoy on the Kursk front.

The 40-second video shows Russian fire hitting the front and rear of the convoy, then hitting the vehicles in the middle in turn.

The tactic of blocking the front and locking the tail is one of the long-standing fighting methods, referring to shooting at the first and last vehicles in a convoy, in order to trap the remaining vehicles in the middle, so that the attack can continue.

Ukraine used this tactic in Brovary when it blocked a column of Russian tanks outside Kiev in March 2022.

The video was released amid a difficult situation for the 10,000-strong Ukrainian force in Kursk province, western Russia.

Relentless attacks by an elite group of Russian drones have destroyed hundreds of vehicles along the main road leading into Kursk, to the town of Sudzha, leaving a key Ukrainian stronghold in shambles.

Exploiting the increasingly difficult supply situation of Ukraine's Siversk Tactical-Operation Group, the much larger Russian forces at Kursk have stepped up their three-month-long counteroffensive.

Ukrainian brigades on the northern edge of the corridor are withdrawing to Sudzha, where Ukrainian soldiers recently repelled a Russian attempt to penetrate the front line by crawling through an old gas pipeline.

This redeployment could be a sign that Ukraine is about to completely withdraw from Kursk, returning to safer areas in northern Ukraine.

According to Forbes, Russian forces are trying to cut off any Ukrainian retreat route. "Russia is destroying bridges in Kursk Oblast and along the international border, in order to prevent the Siversk Tactical-Operation Group from leaving Kursk and returning to Ukraine," the Ukrainian National Defense Strategy Center warned.

The Siversk team actually made some headway until early February. However, the arrival of Russia's Rubicon Advanced Unmanned Systems Center later that month changed the game completely.

“Rubicon uses advanced drone tactics,” explains independent analyst Andrew Perpetua. More dangerously, Rubicon’s frontal attack drones appear to be able to fly through Ukraine’s radio jamming system.

A series of Russian drone attacks on the road into Sudzha on or just before February 25 signaled the beginning of the final phase of Ukraine's seven-month-long offensive at Kursk.

“The day you see this happening should be the day you start worrying about Kursk,” Perpetua wrote.

Russia's successful drone operation in Kursk came as US President Donald Trump cut off US aid to Ukraine and ended intelligence sharing between the two countries.

Russia is taking advantage of the opportunity this turning point presents to retake Kursk, taking away Kiev's key card in any potential territorial negotiations.
