Elevating Thanh Tuyen Festival

BTO-With skillful hands and creative minds, the people of Tuyen Quang city have created unique giant Mid-Autumn lantern models for children to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival. Not stopping there, Tuyen Quang has built and developed into a famous national festival and is increasingly spreading to many domestic and foreign tourists.

People's Festival

Thanh Tuyen Festival, Tuyen Quang Province is held annually on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival. Initially, the festival was spontaneous, some households in residential groups made models for children to play during the Mid-Autumn Festival, from 2004 to 2007 some groups and wards organized it. 2008 was a memorable year when Thanh Tuyen Festival was officially upgraded to city level and from 2014 to present, the Festival has truly become a provincial-level event with a grand and brilliant scale, bringing fame at home and abroad. Although it is a large festival, Thanh Tuyen Festival is organized by the people and the people are the biggest beneficiaries. The festival has become a unique tourism product, unique to Tuyen Quang, attracting a huge number of tourists to Tuyen to enjoy the festival.

Many domestic and international tourists when coming to Thanh Tuyen Festival have affirmed that there is no place in the world that has such a unique and funny Mid-Autumn Festival for children. Organizing a fun and exciting festival shows the solidarity between the people of the groups that has been connected and developed through the joint efforts and consensus to create the most beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival lantern models. This year, the people of Group 6, Tan Quang Ward (Tuyen Quang City) continue to join hands to contribute money and effort to create the "Legendary Golden Dragon" model. Through the model, they show their pride in being descendants of the dragon and fairy and remind generations of young people to try to study and rise up to be worthy of the thousand-year history of the nation. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Group 6, Tan Quang Ward said that thanks to many years of experience in making Mid-Autumn lantern models, the people in the group came up with ideas together, built themes, designed every detail and mobilized the efforts of the people to make it happen. Last year, the group made the "Carp Jumping Over the Dragon Gate" model and won a special prize at the Thanh Tuyen Festival, so this year the people in the group continued to innovate to create more appeal for the Thanh Tuyen Festival.

2023 is the year of the Cat, so the people of group 13, Tan Ha ward have united to make the model "Thanh Tuyen lantern festival". Mr. Huong Xuan Hoa, a resident of group 13, said that when the group leader announced the implementation of making the Mid-Autumn lantern model, the people in the group were unanimous. Every household contributed money, welders made the frame, skilled people pasted paper... thanks to that, the model was completed soon. Seeing the group's model shimmering and parading through the streets in the clear, joyful eyes of the children made everyone very happy. The people in the group did everything so that the children in the group could have the happiest and most loving Mid-Autumn Festival.

Up to now, Thanh Tuyen Festival has truly become a cultural festival with its own unique identity of the people of Tuyen Quang city. Every year on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, people happily join hands to make bigger and more beautiful models of Mid-Autumn lanterns. That also affirms that a festival originating from the hearts of the people will be maintained and developed forever.

Elevating Thanh Tuyen Festival

After nearly 20 years of being created, maintained and developed by the people, Thanh Tuyen Festival has been recognized by the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records three times: "Mid-Autumn Festival with the largest number of lantern models in Vietnam"; "Largest Mid-Autumn Festival tray in Vietnam"; "Largest pair of lanterns in Vietnam". 2023 is the first year that Tuyen Quang province has implemented the Project to innovate the organization of Thanh Tuyen Festival for the period 2023 - 2025, with the key goal of building and developing the Festival into a tourism product with national and international brands. The highlight of this year's Festival is the Thanh Tuyen Festival Night program organized on a national scale. Along with that, many important events took place on this occasion such as: Tourism program "Through the heritage areas of Viet Bac", "Festival of cultural and community tourism villages of 6 Viet Bac provinces", "Tuyen Quang Trade - Tourism Fair" ... These events with the presence of leaders of the Party and State, ministries, central branches and a large number of tourists from all over the country, artists, celebrities, delegates of 6 Viet Bac provinces, Binh Thuan province and two localities of the two countries having cooperative and friendly relations with Tuyen Quang, Xieng Khouang province (Laos) and Anseong city, Gyeonggi province (Korea). This is truly a great opportunity for Tuyen Quang province to promote and boost tourism activities in the area in the coming time.

Mr. Erin Florio, a tourist from California (USA), said that he learned about Thanh Tuyen Festival through the internet and decided to come here to "get lost" in the "fairy tale world" with unique models. He was very impressed with the way people put all their heart into the Mid-Autumn lantern models with love for children. Because the festival originated from the people, he believes that this festival will develop more and more. When he returns to his country, he will introduce to his family and friends the scenery and especially this unique "one of a kind" festival.

According to the leaders of Tuyen Quang City People's Committee, the idea building and making of mid-autumn lantern models are always regularly innovated and renewed by the people of villages, hamlets, and residential groups throughout the city every year to have new, creative, unique, and new models. To select the most beautiful models to participate in the Tuyen City Festival, the city has selected and organized competitions by clusters and city-level competitions. Thereby, recognizing and praising groups that do well and have creative ideas. Through that, it also contributes to promoting the tourism potential as well as the image of the homeland and people of Tuyen Quang, expanding cooperation and development exchanges with provinces and cities nationwide and internationally.

It can be affirmed that up to now, the "good reputation" of Thanh Tuyen Festival has spread far and wide. It is not only a festival that attracts teenagers and children, but has also become a very unique and attractive cultural activity and event that attracts more and more domestic and international tourists to Tuyen Quang. Thereby contributing to promoting the economy and increasing income for local people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan, owner of a service shop in Minh Xuan Ward (Tuyen Quang City), said that the number of visitors to Tuyen Quang this year has increased dramatically, the highest ever. Despite the large number of visitors, the shop has committed not to increase prices and is trying to improve service quality to maintain the beautiful image of the friendly people of Tuyen Quang. Thanks to the development of festival activities, people have benefited a lot, the month with the festival has sales equal to several normal months combined.

With creative and effective ways such as elevating Thanh Tuyen Festival, Tuyen Quang province is determined to strive to achieve the goal of welcoming over 2.5 million tourists in 2023 and gradually turn tourism into an important economic sector, in accordance with the spirit of the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress of the province.
