International Dance Festival - 2024: "Convergence, Creativity"

On the evening of August 17, at the Cultural - Cinema Center of Thua Thien Hue province, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province and the Department of Performing Arts to organize the Opening ceremony of the International Dance Festival - 2024.

Attending the program were Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Tran Ly Ly, Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts; Mr. Tran Hai Van, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation; Mr. Pham Anh Phuong, President of the Vietnam Dance Artists Association; representatives of leaders of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Departments of Culture and Sports of provinces and cities, leaders of embassies with dance art units participating in the festival, along with many artists, actors and audiences.

The International Dance Festival is a program held every 3 years. The participants of the festival are professional dance performing art units, representing regions and countries around the world and professional dance and music art units of Vietnam.

This year, the festival was held from August 17 to 22 in Hue City (Thua Thien Hue Province), gathering nearly 500 artists and actors from 17 art troupes representing 9 countries including: Lao People's Democratic Republic, Republic of the Philippines, People's Republic of China, Republic of India, Republic of Indonesia, Kingdom of Cambodia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and host country Vietnam.

International art units enthusiastically participated in the festival.

Speaking at the program, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that this is a cultural and artistic event to promote cooperation in the field of culture and arts between Vietnam and countries around the world. At the same time, it is an opportunity for Thua Thien Hue province to introduce to domestic and international tourists the image of a beautiful, friendly and hospitable locality, a locality with rich potential and strengths in connecting tourism development with the values of heritage and traditional culture of the nation, a friendly and safe destination.

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the International Dance Festival - 2024 will be a place to gather the diverse cultural quintessence of countries around the world through the art of Dance. It is an opportunity for Vietnamese and foreign dance artists participating in the festival to share experiences in artistic creation activities. Exchange and absorb unique and diverse values of cultural art forms in the period of integration and development. This is also an opportunity to introduce and promote the quintessence, national cultural identity, the unique values of traditional and contemporary Dance art of Vietnam, about the beautiful and peaceful country and people of Vietnam to international friends.

"With the message "Convergence, Creativity - Shine Together", the Organizing Committee hopes that domestic and foreign artists and actors participating in the festival will unleash their creativity, bring all their artistic talents to shine together on stage, and dedicate to the audience the most outstanding dance performances", Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized.

Art program to welcome the International Dance Festival - 2024.

According to the Organizing Committee, the works participating in the festival include genres such as: Short dance, Dance poetry, Dance suite, Short dance drama and Dance drama... in Folk, Classical, Modern styles... In terms of form: Solo, Duo, Trio, group dance....

Works must have high artistic quality, clearly expressing the content, ideas, and artistic images sent to the public through elements such as: structure, dance language structure, music processing, character image building, space and time processing techniques, props, and acting techniques for actors. Use costumes and makeup appropriate to the purpose, content, and artistic image of the work, the cultural traditions of each region, ethnicity, and country, and appropriate to Vietnamese culture.

The festival encourages new creative works that are imbued with the cultural identity of ethnic groups and nations, reflecting the colorful life of society and people in a true, profound and vivid manner. The works explore and innovate in the form of expression, combining with other art forms to enrich the form of expression for dance works.

At the end of the festival, the Organizing Committee will award Gold and Silver Medals to performances with high artistic quality according to the evaluation results of the Art Council. In addition, Certificates of Award and other material benefits (if any) will be awarded.

Immediately after the opening program, the audience watched the first performances by artists and actors from the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theater and the Art Unit representing Malaysia.
