With only 600 square meters of garden land next to his house, Mr. Pham Van Quy in Tan Thanh village, Tho Hai commune (Tho Xuan) has actively applied advances in cultivation, finding his own crops to cultivate. Notably, the land rotation coefficient has been pushed up very high, only 15 - 20 days to harvest a crop, so the income reaches about 300 million VND per year.

In the early days of July, under the harsh sunlight, Mr. Quy's family garden is still covered with the green color of vegetable sprouts. The entire garden is covered with black nets to block the intensity of sunlight. The zinc frame system is installed with misting nozzles so the garden always maintains humidity. The difference from other vegetable growing models is that here, the homeowner does not grow commercial vegetables but buys seeds to grow and sell vegetable seedlings. From packages of kohlrabi, chili, cabbage, tomato and many other vegetables that are sown with a high density like seedlings, when they have 3-4 leaves, they will be pulled out, packed in banana leaf pots to supply everywhere. On average, each year, Mr. Quy spends 8 months producing vegetable seeds, the remaining 4 months when market demand is low, he will grow commercial herbs such as scallions, celery, coriander, dill...
“My family's garden used to be a specialized land of Tho Hai commune. After the locality had a policy of planning to become rural residential land, my family bought it back, built a house and built a garden right next to the house for convenient production. Initially, I also produced common commercial vegetables such as mustard greens, kohlrabi, cabbage... However, vegetable prices were always unstable, some years the price was good, other years it was bad, so income was unstable, and the family economy was also difficult. I struggled to find a way to develop the economy right on the existing land. I went to many places to learn, then realized that growing vegetable seeds had a much higher income than growing commercial vegetables. From then on, my wife and I started to work and gradually gain experience, expanding the output market in specialized vegetable growing areas in and outside the district" - Mr. Pham Van Quy said.
According to the model owner born in 1965, in the early years, he encountered many difficulties due to the inappropriate production process, poor seed quality, and low germination rate. Accordingly, many batches of seedlings produced were stunted and weak, so they sold very slowly, even unsold, leading to losses. "Vegetable plants are like newborn babies, the care process must be as careful and meticulous as taking care of a baby. Therefore, I have to learn from experience while working, even having to go through many expensive lessons to have a complete production process like today" - Mr. Quy said.
To build credibility with customers, in recent years, Mr. Quy has imported seeds from a reputable company in Hanoi. He even accepts high prices to buy seeds from Korea and Japan, so the output for the product is increasingly expanding. Vegetable seeds are supplied by traders throughout Tho Xuan district, many districts in the province, even to Ninh Binh province and some northern provinces. Cultivation is done by rows, each type of vegetable with different sowing times, so almost every day there are vegetable seeds to sell. Pulling out the previous batch of vegetables on the same day, the seed packets are planted, so the land turnover ratio here is very high.
In his home garden, in addition to 2 family workers, he also hires nearly 10 workers each time he pulls out seedlings. For the seeding stage alone, a seed sowing machine replaces human labor. According to the homeowner's calculations, the family earns about 300 million VND from the garden each year, with profits of about half of the revenue. On average, Mr. Quy earns nearly 1 million VND per day from the garden. If not counting high-tech agricultural models, this is an income level that few farming models in the province can surpass.
