(Fatherland) - On November 15, in Hanoi, National Archives Center I coordinated with the National Academy of Public Administration to organize a discussion with the theme "Memory Box 4.0".

The seminar was held to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23). The seminar had the participation of historian Duong Trung Quoc and many guests in the fields of archives, education, heritage management, and communication.

Speaking at the seminar, Director of National Archives Center I Tran Thi Mai Huong shared: "Over the years, National Archives Center I has promoted its mission, organized activities to share archival documents with the community, thereby, partly meeting the public's desires and needs to learn about Vietnamese culture and history. However, in the current digital age, each of us has our own memories, carrying positive energy, so those memories need to be shared in the community, must be passed down from generation to generation so that the archival value will last forever, continuing the historical flow of the country".

Historian Duong Trung Quoc shares at the seminar

"The discussion was organized with the desire to connect young people more closely with archives and personal memories in the flow of history. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for each individual to share and discuss their own "box" as a metaphor for preserving memories of history, culture and people. Through that, the public gradually approaches the connection between collective memory, context, and images of Vietnamese people through historical periods, thereby connecting and sharing between the past, present and future" - Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong said.

Sharing at the discussion, historian Duong Trung Quoc said: "The French colonial period was a period of many national upheavals, but it must also be admitted that the technology brought by Western civilization, especially photography, has given us the opportunity to preserve heroic historical pages. Through photos, we can know and understand the stories, emotions, and circumstances at that time. Not only that, we can also copy hundreds of thousands of copies and spread them so that the community can feel them together."

Historian Duong Trung Quoc also affirmed: "Sharing is the best way to preserve precious memories. Because if a photo, a memorable memory is only kept privately by an individual and not shared with the community, the value of those memories will not be sustainable, not long-lasting and maybe just a small risk occurs, it will disappear".

At the seminar, historian Duong Trung Quoc also introduced and shared books and photo documents about the country's historical periods from many authors who are photographers in Vietnam and abroad. According to him, when moving moments are "stilled" under the lens, it is the most effective way to preserve them, closest to the truth.

In addition, the discussion also had the presence of British photographer Andy Soloman - owner of the exhibition "Hanoi: A Time to Remember" held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

The photographer expressed that when he arrived in Hanoi in 1992, the atmosphere and warm welcome from the people of Hanoi made him want to stay and build a life in this city, as well as use his camera to capture precious moments of the Capital during the past war. Through these images, many foreigners and the younger generation can visualize the dramatic changes of Vietnam over the past 30 years.

Through the sharing of experts, it can be affirmed that, in the booming digital age, personal memories play an important role in continuing the history, becoming the "glue" in the process of preserving and promoting good values../.
