On the morning of May 10, 2024, in Vung Tau City, a press conference was held to introduce the event "Vietnam Sea and Island Festival - Vung Tau City 2024" organized by Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in coordination with the Phan Trong Binh People's Armed Forces Hero Social Work Fund.
The festival will take place over four days (from May 23 to 26) at Quang Trung Square - Front Beach (Vung Tau City). The program is designed as a series of diverse events such as cuisine, sports, concerts, mobile propaganda, parades, music and dance, culture and arts, etc.
Island festival but only yoga performance, ao dai?

Mr. Tran Dinh Khoa, Secretary of Vung Tau City, said that this is the first time Vung Tau City has organized the largest-ever Sea and Island Festival to promote the image of Vietnam's sea and islands to the people; especially Vung Tau City, a place with potential for marine economy.
However, many comments said that the organizers introduced many side activities but they were not really attractive and had many differences. Notably, there were no activities related to the sea even though this was a festival about the sea and islands, but visitors only came to watch yoga, perform Ao Dai…?
Ms. Phan Huong Giang, Head of the Organizing Committee, is answering questions from the press.
"If we talk about sea and islands, why not mention activities related to the sea? Vung Tau can also develop more strongly in relation to the sea and islands, games, activities on the sea such as surfing, boat racing... and many cultural activities related to the sea?", a reporter asked.
The program's general director Dinh Duc Minh replied: "The performances staged in the program and sideline activities such as mini shows, parades, yoga or Ao Dai performances... we believe all bring very beautiful images of the people and islands of Vung Tau City, thereby creating a beautiful image in the eyes of visitors coming here for the first time. In addition, with the specific activities that can be organized, we always have new ideas and activities that can be continuously updated to have activities related to the sea".
The general director said he appreciated the reporter's ideas and they will be added to the next year's Sea and Island Festival.
This is the first time Vung Tau City has organized the largest-scale Sea and Island Festival ever.
Ms. Phan Huong Giang, Head of the Organizing Committee, further explained: "When it comes to the sea, there is windsurfing, boat racing, air games and all activities related to the sea and island exhibition, seminars on the marine economy such as offshore wind power, logistics... The Organizing Committee has outlined many ideas that fill up 2 pages of paper. However, if we do everything, we will not have enough resources, and if we do everything this year, there will be nothing left to do next year. We decided to create a model of a Festival about the sea and islands that is profound, meaningful, diverse in implementation methods, and can be deployed in many coastal localities nationwide."
'Fried fish balls are also a local product'
A highlight of the first Vietnam Sea and Island Festival held in Vung Tau City was emphasized by the Organizing Committee as having up to 200 food stalls and 100 local product stalls serve tourists. However, recently, many locals and tourists have complained that food festivals only have fried fish balls and grilled sausages, and that the food festivals are named just for show.
Ms. Phan Huong Giang, Head of the Organizing Committee, said that they will try to choose large, reputable food brands to participate in the food festival and it is not necessary to do everything possible to have enough 300 booths in the food festival.
"Also It is inevitable that there will be stalls selling local products, and since they are local products, fried fish balls are actually a regional dish. So to be honest, even though they are fried fish balls, we can still eat them in restaurants, right? The important thing is food hygiene and safety, and the sales area should not be sloppy," said Ms. Giang.
Regarding the Vietnamese Ao Dai Parade Festival (scheduled to take place on the afternoon of May 24), when asked whether the program will have the participation of any famous designers or models? The program's general director promised to provide a specific list later. "To ensure the content and the most perfect Ao Dai designs, there will definitely be the appearance of designers as well as current models who are all working effectively in the fashion industry. This list will be provided after the program", said general director Dinh Duc Minh.
On the occasion of April 30 and May 1, Ba Ria - Vung Tau attracted 636,000 visitors.
Sharing at the press conference, Mr. Tran Dinh Khoa, Secretary of Vung Tau City, informed that on the occasion of April 30 and May 1, Ba Ria - Vung Tau attracted 636,000 visitors, of which Vung Tau City welcomed 300,000 visitors. "If the weather is favorable, our program is attractive enough to attract a large number of visitors to Vung Tau City, creating conditions for Vung Tau City's tourism brand to fly higher and further."
Within the framework of the Vietnam Sea and Island Festival, on the evening of May 25, 2024, the art performance night "Aspirational Journey" with nearly 700 dancers, actors, artists... participated. Accordingly, the public will enjoy special performances such as hydraulic lifting techniques, automatic programming Hoist system, light and laser system, unique combination of dance, circus and many changes in performance positions in the air. The show also has the participation of many famous artists such as: Diva My Linh, Ho Ngoc Ha, Phuong Linh, Trong Hieu, Phuong My Chi...
At the press conference, the Organizing Committee introduced many activities in the series of events of the Vietnam Sea and Island Festival - Vung Tau City 2024 such as the food fair (from May 23 to 26); The Luminous Harmony Show minishow (night of May 23 and 24); yoga festival (morning of May 24); Vietnamese Ao Dai parade (afternoon of May 24); Vietnam sea and island mobile propaganda team (morning of May 24). In addition, the Organizing Committee also organized 200 food stalls and 100 stalls of local products to serve tourists.
