Private economy and cultural development in the new era

Bui Hoai Son If in the past, cultural development relied mainly on state resources, today, in the new era - the era of digitalization, globalization and innovation - the private economy has emerged as a solid pillar, making a decisive contribution to preserving, creating and promoting culture.

The development of the private economy has created breakthroughs in the cultural industry. Private enterprises with strong capital and innovative thinking have helped expand production scale, improve the quality of cultural products, and bring culture closer to the public. Vietnam, with the strong steps of companies such as BHD, Galaxy, Yeah1, is gradually affirming its position in the field of cinema and media, contributing to bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international audiences.

The private economy is not only a driving force for creativity but also creates new spaces for art and performance. Thanks to the investment of businesses, contemporary art programs, musicals, dramas, and art exhibitions are increasingly organized more professionally, on a larger scale, and more attractively. Programs such as "A O Show", "My Village", and "Teh Dar" by Lune Production have created special marks, not only introducing traditional Vietnamese culture but also bringing Vietnamese art to the world with performances in many countries.

Not only creating new cultural products, the private sector also participates in preserving heritage and promoting traditional cultural values. Over the years, large enterprises around the world have actively contributed to the restoration of historical relics, the construction of museums, and the funding of cultural research projects. The participation of the private economy in this field not only helps reduce the burden on the state budget but also opens up creative business models, combining conservation with tourism development, helping culture become a sustainable economic resource.

In addition, the private sector plays an important role in exporting culture through trade and tourism. Traditional handicrafts, fashion, and cuisine, when combined with modern trade strategies, have helped local cultures gain access to international markets. With the development of businesses such as Vietravel and Saigontourist, we are exploiting this potential, bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international friends.

One aspect that cannot be ignored is that the private economy has expanded employment opportunities and developed human resources in the cultural industry. According to the World Bank, the creative industry contributes 3-5% of global GDP and creates millions of jobs. Vietnam, with the strong development of enterprises in the field of creative technology such as FPT, VNG, is opening up great career opportunities for young people in the fields of graphic design, games, animation, and multimedia. This not only helps improve the quality of human resources but also encourages the spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity in the cultural field.

However, despite its important contributions, the private sector in the cultural sector still faces many challenges. Private enterprises still have difficulty accessing capital and face fierce competition from multinational corporations, while the legal system on intellectual property and copyright is still incomplete. Cooperation between the public and private sectors is not really synchronized, leading to a lack of specific support policies for businesses investing in culture.

To address these challenges, breakthrough solutions are needed. The State needs to develop preferential policies for businesses investing in culture, including tax reductions, loan support, and research and development incentives. The legal system needs to be improved to protect intellectual property rights, helping businesses feel secure in investing in creativity. At the same time, there needs to be close coordination between the State and the private sector in heritage conservation projects and cultural tourism development. Taking advantage of digital technology and developing online platforms for cultural products is also a direction that needs to be strongly promoted.

In the digital age, the private sector not only plays the role of an investor, but also a driving force for innovation and creativity in culture. With its flexibility, creativity and strong ability to mobilize resources, the private sector not only helps preserve heritage and promote art, but also plays an important role in promoting Vietnamese culture to the world. To maximize this potential, there needs to be close coordination between the State and enterprises, in order to create a favorable environment for the sustainable development of the cultural industry, making Vietnam a cultural power in the future.
