This afternoon, October 11, the People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi City coordinated to organize a meeting with a number of typical organizations and enterprises in the city to mobilize participation in supporting the City's "For the Poor" Fund in 2024.
Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Lan Huong chaired the conference.
Attending the conference were members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the City Party Committee's Propaganda Department Nguyen Doan Toan, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan; leaders of the City People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, City departments, branches and sectors and large corporations, units and enterprises with a tradition of contributing to the City's "For the Poor" Fund in recent years.
Poor households need support from businesses and philanthropists.
Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City Dang Thi Phuong Hoa said that in recent times, along with the support policies of the City, the City Fatherland Front at all levels has continued to mobilize and effectively use social security funds and the Fund "For Vietnam's Seas and Islands". This year, the City's "Rescue" Fund has allocated 112.49 billion VND to support families of victims who died due to fires, natural disasters, and serious incidents occurring in the City and people in provinces affected by storms No. 2 and No. 3 and floods.
Regarding storm No. 3 and floods in September 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City issued an appeal to mobilize the people of the capital to participate in supporting the provinces affected by storms and floods and guided the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels in the area to propagate and mobilize the people to promptly respond to and overcome the consequences of the storm. By October 10, 2024, the City's "Relief" Fund had received more than 250 billion VND and regularly published the list of donations from benefactors, organizations and individuals through bank accounts on the media channels of the City Fatherland Front.
In particular, continuing to effectively implement the two key focuses of supporting housing and providing livelihoods to help sustainably escape poverty, in 2024, the City proactively set a goal of eliminating 100% of degraded houses for poor and near-poor households in the area. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City and the City People's Committee have signed a joint plan to support the construction and repair of degraded houses for poor and near-poor households in Hanoi.
By the end of September 30, 714/714 solidarity houses had been completed. At the same time, the Party Committee, government and people of the capital supported 15 provinces and cities to build 7,140 solidarity houses worth more than 317 billion VND, practically responding to the call launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Notably, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Hoa informed that in the context of the increasingly developing capital, the work of caring for and supporting poor households and households in difficult circumstances to have living conditions higher than the general multidimensional poverty standard of the whole country is always a special concern of the City. The results of the review according to the multidimensional poverty standard for the period 2022-2025, by the end of 2023, Hanoi still has more than 690 poor households, accounting for 0.03% and 15,835 near-poor households, accounting for 0.7%, in great need of support from agencies, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists.
Therefore, with the goal of mobilizing resources to care for and support poor households and households in difficult circumstances to have conditions to rise out of poverty sustainably, contributing to ensuring social security in the city and sharing with some provinces still facing many difficulties, the People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi issued an Open Letter "Mobilizing support for the Fund "For the Poor" of Hanoi in 2024" to agencies, organizations, businesses and people of the capital.
“The city calls on agencies, organizations, units, businesses, and people of all walks of life in the capital to promote the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and support of the nation, actively join hands to help the poor and participate in supporting the City's "For the Poor" Fund in 2024. All support will be announced at the live television program "Launching Ceremony of the Peak Month "For the Poor" and Social Security in the City in 2024" held on the evening of October 16 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace" - Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Hoa said.
Connecting philanthropists with the disadvantaged
Listening to the opinions of representatives of departments, branches, agencies and enterprises attending the conference, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City Nguyen Lan Huong expressed that the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital highly appreciate the attention and care of the business community for the staff, workers and laborers, and actively participate in social security activities, joining hands with the City to care for the poor with the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.
Emphasizing that in Hanoi, there are still households that, due to many reasons related to health, family circumstances... if not supported, will find it difficult to escape poverty, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City said that the City Fatherland Front is the unit assigned to manage, receive, allocate and use the "For the Poor" Fund, committing that all funds to support the poor will always be transferred to the right subjects.
“Through the reception and support of the people affected by the recent storm No. 3, businesses can continue to feel secure about organizing this support work, in which the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City has been public from the reception, statement to the allocation of support... Immediately after the storm left Hanoi, the City was also the first unit to support funding for 23 neighboring provinces and cities with a value of 81 billion VND in a timely manner. The support contents are very practical, and the City Fatherland Front also plays the role of connecting philanthropists with difficult circumstances in need of support" - Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong shared.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City said that right at the "Launching Ceremony of the Peak Month "For the Poor" and Social Security of the City in 2024", the Chairman of the City People's Committee will honor businesses and entrepreneurs who have actively participated in supporting the Fund and achieved high results over the past years. At the same time, he hopes that businesses will continue to accompany the City in the social security program and sustainable poverty reduction of the Capital.
