In the latest document just issued, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has provided guidance on the implementation of secondary education tasks for the 2023-2024 school year. Accordingly, the Ministry encourages schools to organize separate classes for each selected subject.
In less than a month, the 2023-2024 school year will officially begin. Entering the second admission season for grade 10 high school according to the 2018 General Education Program (GDPT). Choosing a subject combination is still a concern for parents and students when all their efforts in the final year have been devoted to the exam to pass the subject. In Hanoi, up to this point, the subject selection of students at many schools has stabilized. Schools have proactively built combinations and announced them early for candidates and parents to learn, research, and even organize direct consultation sessions at the school.
Being one of the top schools in terms of entrance exam scores, since 2022, the first year of implementing the new 2018 General Education Program at the high school level, Viet Duc High School has been proactive in building a combination, allocating resources to implement a model of career-oriented classes and is also one of the few high schools in Hanoi at that time to organize a meeting for parents of all 10th graders before the registration date to explain and share concerns and questions to minimize errors in selection or having to change later. In the 2023-2024 school year, before students choose a combination, the school also organized a meeting for parents to clear up all concerns and questions.
Ms. Nguyen Boi Quynh - Principal of Viet Duc High School said that the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program has many new points not only for parents and students but also for teachers. The construction of the combination is also based on the situation of facilities and teaching staff, but at the same time, students must use those subjects to enter universities later. After the last school year, the school has not had any students request to change the combination, because the school has arranged it quite reasonably.
Xuan Phuong High School (Tu Liem District) in the 2023-2024 school year will enroll 15 grade 10 students with 7 subject groups, similar to 2022. Mr. Tran Trong Ha - Principal of the school said that the subject groups are stable, so during the enrollment process, the school informed parents and students about the subject groups to learn and research in advance.
Regarding elective subjects for the 2023-2024 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training has just issued a document guiding the implementation of secondary education tasks for the 2023-2024 school year. Specifically, for the organization of teaching elective subjects and elective study topics at high school level, the Ministry of Education and Training encourages schools to organize separate classes for each elective subject and elective study topic, flexibly arrange the number of students in each class and build a suitable timetable to best meet the wishes of students; Promote the organization of counseling and let students register and choose subjects suitable to their abilities, strengths and career orientation, ensuring publicity and transparency.
In addition, to implement the quality assurance general education program, the Ministry of Education and Training requires the Departments of Education and Training to direct secondary education institutions to develop school education plans that are suitable for the school's teaching staff, facilities, and teaching equipment. At the same time, note that for the Natural Science subject, it is necessary to assign teachers to teach the subject to ensure requirements consistent with professional capacity. For experiential and career guidance activities, priority is given to assigning teachers to take on content that is suitable for the teacher's expertise....
According to the above instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, for grades 5, 9 and 12 that are implementing the 2006 General Education Program, schools continue to teach according to Official Dispatch No. 3280/BGDĐT-GDTrH on instructions for adjusting teaching content for junior high school and high school. When developing teaching plans for subjects, pay attention to supplementing the content according to the 2018 General Education Program to prepare students from grade 9 to grade 10.
