Prosecuted 16 people for creating fake medical records and taking advantage of insurance in Thanh Hoa

On December 14, news from Thanh Hoa Provincial Police said that after a period of monitoring and investigating, recently the Investigation Police Agency of Nhu Xuan District Police (Thanh Hoa Province) initiated a case and prosecuted 16 people for the crimes of "Fraud in insurance business"; "Abusing positions and powers while performing official duties" and "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences"...

According to the police, of the 16 people mentioned above, 13 were prosecuted for the crime of "Fraud in insurance business"; 2 were prosecuted for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties" and 1 was prosecuted for the crime of "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences".

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation, the police of Nhu Xuan district discovered unusual signs in the fact that customers of Manulife Vietnam Company Limited (Life Insurance Company) residing far away, in areas with more developed economies, came to Nhu Xuan District General Hospital for examination and treatment.

The frequency of broken legs and broken arms in a year is continuous. There are even customers in mountainous districts but go to other districts to treat common diseases.

Realizing that the group of insurance consultants had signs of colluding with hospital staff to create fake medical records to profit from life insurance, the police of Nhu Xuan district reported to their superiors to file a case against them.

After a period of concentrating forces, applying synchronous professional measures, urgently collecting full documents and evidence to prove the crime, Nhu Xuan District Police solved the case, simultaneously prosecuting 16 related people.

Of these, 7 people are staff of Thanh Hoa City General Hospital; Nghi Son town and Hoang Hoa district; Nhu Xuan and Thuong Xuan.

The Investigation Police Agency of Nhu Xuan District Police identified the leaders of this insurance fraud ring as Nguyen Thi Ngan (born in 1987, residing in Thuong Xuan town, Thuong Xuan district) and Nguyen Thi Loan (born in 1990, residing in Tan Phong town, Quang Xuong district).

From 2021 to 2023 alone, Ngan and Loan colluded with many agents below and officials of hospitals in the province to create fake medical records of customers to profit from insurance money, causing damage to Manulife Vietnam Company Limited Thanh Hoa branch of nearly 1 billion VND.
