(GLO)- Since June 5, most preschools in Pleiku City have started organizing summer childcare according to parents' needs. Care, nurturing, and education activities are guaranteed by schools as in the school year, but with more emphasis on training life skills and creating useful playgrounds to help children have a fun and safe summer.
One week after the end of the 2022-2023 school year, Hoa Hong Kindergarten (Hoi Thuong Ward) reopened its doors to welcome children to summer classes. According to Principal Tran Thi Thuy, with about 420 children registered for summer classes, the school has organized 11 classes, including: 2 groups of children, 3 preschool classes, 3 sprout classes and 3 leaf classes; childcare time starts from June 5 to July 31. The total number of staff, teachers and employees participating in summer activities is 34 people.

“During the summer school, the school continues to strictly implement measures to pick up and take care of children; ensure food safety and hygiene and provide a nutritious and sufficient diet in the organization of meals for boarding students; prevent accidents and injuries for children, prevent fires and explosions, and ensure school security. For kindergarten and preschool classes, we require teachers to be close to children, create a mindset for children to love going to school, and quickly bring them into order. The school also directs teachers to develop a summer education plan suitable for each age group of students; increase the organization of experiential and gifted activities for children,” said Ms. Thuy.
Similarly, Hoang Mai Kindergarten (Hoa Lu Ward) also started summer teaching activities from June 5. Ms. Le Thi Ngan - Principal of the school - informed: With the consent of the Ward People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training (GD-DT), we plan to organize 6 summer classes (1 group of children, 1 preschool class, 2 nursery classes and 2 leaf classes) with about 170 children at 2 facilities. However, currently only more than 150 children are in class.
Before implementation, the school will survey parents' needs for childcare during the summer and arrange appropriate management staff, teachers, and employees. At the same time, direct the development of a plan for care, nurturing, entertainment, and education of necessary skills for children during the summer according to regulations. In particular, it will mainly review for children the content learned in the 2022-2023 school year according to each age group and increase the organization of training activities, life skills education, and experiential entertainment; absolutely do not teach the program in advance.

Ms. Le Thu Thuy (Group 3, Hoa Lu Ward) shared: “I have a daughter over 3 years old. Both my husband and I work regular hours, and my grandparents live far away, so we were quite worried about finding a place to send our child during the summer break. Therefore, when Hoang Mai Kindergarten asked for parents' opinions on childcare during the summer, I immediately agreed and felt quite secure because my child would be cared for, nurtured and educated at school with many useful activities.”
Organizing summer classes not only helps parents relieve their worries about finding a place to send their children, but also creates conditions for teachers to further commit to their profession. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, a teacher at Hoang Mai Kindergarten, confided: “I have been working at the school for 2 years, after a period when private schools faced many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. Every summer, I register to teach, partly because I love the school and the children, and partly because I hope to have more income to cover my living expenses. During the summer, in addition to ensuring care, I build an activity program that focuses on experience, exercise, and enhances life skills education and language development for children.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Ngoc, a teacher at Hoa Hong Kindergarten, said: “This year, I was assigned by the school to be in charge of the kindergarten children. In addition to the old students of the school, there are also some new children. Therefore, the first days were a bit difficult when the children cried and asked for their parents. I also prioritized paying more attention to the new children in the class to help them quickly get acquainted with the school and their friends.”

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Pleiku City, up to now, the whole city has 17/20 public kindergartens and 12/17 private kindergartens registered to organize summer classes with over 2,700 children attending; mainly schools in the central area. Most schools started organizing summer classes from June 5-6, some schools started a week earlier or later and simultaneously ended the summer program on July 31 to prepare for the new school year.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Thoa - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Pleiku City - said: In recent years, the demand for summer childcare at kindergartens of parents has been very high. Therefore, after the end of the 2022-2023 school year, the Department of Education and Training of the city has issued a document guiding preschools to organize the care, nurturing and education of children during the summer.
Accordingly, schools submit proposals (with the end-of-year parent meeting minutes) and report the number of parents registering their children for summer school to the City Department of Education and Training. At the same time, assign a schedule for the school board to be on duty, strengthen management of nurturing, care and education activities; focus on food hygiene and safety in the boarding kitchen and ensure nutrition for children. The implementation of summer income and expenditure must be agreed upon by parents, ensuring that income is sufficient to cover expenses, there must be a system of records to track income and expenditure and it must be made public according to regulations.
