In the qualifying round, U13 HLHT is in the Central Highlands region group with 4 U13 teams: Khanh Hoa, Song Lam Nghe An, Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Binh Dinh.
The initial goal set for coach Nguyen The Mao's team was to reach the national finals. However, before the qualifying round began, U13 HLHT suffered a loss in personnel when key players Phan Dinh Hao and Ha Cong Nam Khanh were injured.
However, at Tam Ky City Stadium (Quang Nam), U13 HLHT entered the match quite impressively with a 4-0 victory over U13 Khanh Hoa on the opening day (June 3).
Continuing the excitement, on June 7, U13 HLHT easily defeated the martial arts team - U13 Binh Dinh with a score of 3 - 0. In the third round taking place in the late afternoon of June 10, the young players of Ha Tinh steadfastly tried to hold U13 SLNA to a 3 - 3 draw, winning 1 valuable point.
On the morning of June 12, despite the hot weather and the absence of several key players, U13 Ha Tinh still had a good match and shared points with the young team from the Mountain City in a goalless match. After a series of 4 unbeaten matches, U13 HLHT participated in the final round of the Yamaha Cup National Youth Football Tournament for the 3rd consecutive time.

Coach Nguyen The Mao instructs his students on tactics.
Although there are no outstanding stars in the squad, HLHT still shows a diverse playing style, operating a 4-1-4-1 tactical formation with many small, smooth and beautiful passing combinations. This squad also shows the ability to deploy set pieces with high efficiency. Including both the qualifying round and the final round, the young team of Hong Mountain scored 15 goals and conceded 4 goals.

Winning a thrilling 1-0 victory over U13 Dak Lak (July 10), coach Nguyen The Mao's team met Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the semi-final on the afternoon of July 12. Once again, they were tied with the representative of the Central Highlands in the official 60 minutes, however, the young players of Ha Tinh showed more courage in the nerve-wracking penalty shootout to overcome U13 HAGL with a final score of 5-3, thereby advancing straight to the final.

On the evening of July 14, the “Nghe derby” at the national U13 tournament took place dramatically and attractively, as expected by football fans on both sides of the Lam River. Despite playing with determination and effort, U13 HLHT still suffered a regrettable 0-1 defeat to U13 Song Lam Nghe An, thereby missing out on the prestigious championship trophy.
The defeat in the final match was truly regrettable, but with what they have achieved throughout the entire season, U13 HLHT deserves to be the champion in the hearts of their hometown fans. In particular, 3 players: Ha Cong Nam Khanh, Nguyen Thanh Binh and Nguyen Pham Khac Huong were included in the typical squad of the 2023 National Youth Finals.
