On the evening of May 28, the People's Committee of An Giang province held the opening ceremony of the national festival of Ba Chua Xu Mountain Sam 2024, combined with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of this festival being included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage (2014 - 2024).
The national festival of Ba Chua Xu in Sam Mountain takes place from May 22 to June 3 (April 15 to 27 of the lunar calendar). After the opening ceremony, traditional rituals will take place such as the procession of the statue of Ba Chua Xu, the street festival and the bathing ceremony of Ba Chua Xu.
The annual Ba Chua Xu Festival at Sam Mountain is an opportunity for An Giang province to promote the education of fine traditions; at the same time, promote the image of the land, people, scenic spots, historical relics and typical and unique cultural heritage values of the locality.
This year, the People's Committee of An Giang province allows tourists to visit the Sam Mountain Lady Festival for free during the 7 days. The free admission period starts from 0:00 on May 28 to 0:00 on June 3 (April 21 to 27 of the lunar calendar).
Speaking at the opening night, Mr. Le Van Phuoc, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, shared that the national festival of Ba Chua Xu Mountain Sam is a festival with special spiritual values in Chau Doc region in particular and An Giang province in general. The festival is an opportunity for people to express their love, gratitude and respect for those who have contributed to the people and the country. In recent times, the An Giang provincial government has implemented many solutions to protect and develop cultural values in the process of socio-economic development.
An Giang has been approved by the Government to submit to UNESCO for consideration to include the Via Ba Chua Xu Festival in Sam Mountain, An Giang Province, in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The dossier is expected to be considered and approved in December 2024.
