Prabowo's chances of winning the election have been steadily increasing since he chose Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the mayor of Solo and the eldest son of President Joko Widodo, as his running mate in October.

A nationwide poll conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia between November 23 and December 1 with 1,200 respondents showed that 45.8% of respondents would vote for the Prabowo-Gibran duo.

Meanwhile, former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who led in various polls before the president's son switched to Mr Prabowo's side, is now in second place with 25.6%.

Mr Ganjar, who is partnered with Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Minister Mohammad Mahfud, was nominated by the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which was also Mr Gibran’s party before a dramatic change in October.

The support for the final pair, former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and House Speaker Muhaimin Iskandar, was 22.8 percent, while the remaining 5.9 percent of respondents remained undecided.

Indikator Politik chief researcher Burhanuddin Muhtadi said support for the Prabowo-Gibran pairing rose sharply from 39.7 percent in the previous survey conducted between October 27 and November 1. In contrast, support for the Ganjar-Mahfud and Anies-Muhaimin pairings has been declining.
