Ms. Le Thi Thu Huong, Principal of Sai Dong Urban Primary School, spoke at the beginning of the workshop. |
Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Ms. Le Thi Thu Huong, Principal of Sai Dong Urban Primary School shared:
“The vision of Sai Dong Urban Primary School is to become the leading public primary school in Vietnam, meeting international standards and being a prestigious brand in the City, the whole country and the whole region. With the mission of establishing a happy school, where students are loved, cared for and developed comprehensively, we always want to bring the most suitable learning methods to the children, so we have connected with a community of prestigious experts to organize this workshop.”
According to Ms. Le Thi Thu Huong, the workshop aims to raise awareness and teaching capacity on arts and social-emotional education in the public preschool and primary education system in Vietnam. Arts education combined with emotions not only helps children develop creative skills but also nurtures empathy, communication and problem-solving skills in learning and social environments.
Ms. Tong Lien Anh, Deputy Director of the Institute for Lifelong Learning, shared about the importance of preschool and primary education to children's lifelong learning journey. |
Emphasizing the important role of preschool and primary education as a solid foundation for lifelong learning, according to MSc. Tong Lien Anh, the early years of life are the stage of forming learning habits, nurturing creativity and developing core skills, helping children build confidence and adaptability to the learning environment. A quality preschool and primary education system not only supports children's intellectual development but also plays an important role in forming an emotional and social foundation, helping children be ready for the next levels of education as well as a lifelong learning journey.
The question then arises: How can preschool and primary education promote these values, create a truly happy and sustainable learning environment, and nurture a love and passion for lifelong learning in young children? This requires a comprehensive approach to education, in which each school is not only a place to impart knowledge but also a space that respects personal development, emotions and social values.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen, Director of the Institute for Research and Development of Educational Management, discussed a new perspective on happiness and the impact of education on children's happiness. |
Continuing her presentation, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen shared her insights into the concept of happiness in education. She introduced UNESCO’s Happy School Initiative, emphasizing four core elements: people, teaching process, educational environment and school culture. A happy school not only has a friendly environment, but also builds trust and respect between teachers, students and parents, creating conditions for students to freely create and develop their personal identity.
According to her, to do that, education needs to shift from a knowledge transmission model to developing students' qualities and abilities, emphasizing emotional education and engagement through creative and engaging teaching methods, promoting a spirit of cooperation and creating motivation for learning, in which the role of teachers is not only that of transmitters but also of guides and inspiration for students.
Ms. Minna Lappalainen shares about the benefits of applying music and art in teaching to children's development. |
Continuing to explore this topic further, Ms. Minna Lappalainen introduced the Laulau Learning educational method - an innovative approach to help children develop comprehensively through art. This method includes three main forms: Songdrawing, Learning Mats and Social-Emotional Artplay, designed to support interdisciplinary learning, while helping children confidently express their social and emotional skills.
According to Ms. Minna Lappalainen, learning through art is highly appreciated and widely applied in Finland as well as many developed countries in the world thanks to its ability to promote comprehensive development for children through learning combined with play and art. Children here participate in an active learning environment, combining music, art, interactive games and movement, thereby encouraging creative thinking and enhancing social skills.
Teachers from many different primary and preschool schools in Hanoi and other provinces participated in the experience of applying the Song Drawing method in the classroom. |
Based on her practical experience, Ms. Minna also shared about the transition period between preschool and primary school in Finland, emphasizing the positive effects of Laulau Learning in supporting children to adapt to the change in learning environment. At the same time, she expressed her hope that this method will bring similar impacts when applied to the education system in Vietnam.
Not only stopping at theory, the workshop also brought practical experiences, helping participants have a more intuitive view of how to apply art in teaching. Guests directly participated in a sample class using the Song Drawing method, with many attractive activities such as "Singing pen", experience drawing on giant paper mats or interactive music games.
In addition to providing information on advanced educational models, the conference also acts as a bridge between schools, experts and educational administrators. This promises to be an important platform to promote innovations in arts education and social-emotional development, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education for Vietnamese children.
The workshop provided practical experiences, helping attendees gain a more intuitive view of how to apply art in teaching. |
