The computer-simulated exercises, designed to enhance command officers' combat command and control capabilities, combine counter-weapons of mass destruction and air maneuver operations with field exercises to provide realistic training, Yonhap news agency reported.
The five-day training, scheduled to last until March 20, will take place at training facilities in Incheon, west of Seoul, and in the border town of Paju, the Army said.
The exercise mobilized about 1,200 troops from both sides, with the participation of troops from units including the 17th Infantry Division, the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Defense Command, as well as the Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division/South Korea-US Combined Division.
The 17th Infantry Division has conducted combat command training with the US 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-US Combined Division since 2013.
The latest exercises are being held in conjunction with Freedom Shield, an annual spring exercise conducted by the allies, which is scheduled to last until March 20.
