According to information from the US Embassy and Consulate General, the $1 million in emergency humanitarian aid will be provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
"This funding will be distributed to humanitarian partners to provide cash assistance for various purposes, providing shelter, clean water, sanitation, and other non-food assistance to contribute to the Government of Vietnam-led disaster relief efforts that are urgently underway across the country. This $1 million funding builds on the long-standing support provided to the Government of Vietnam and the Vietnam Red Cross Society to help build climate resilience and enhance disaster preparedness for communities across the country," the announcement said.
In addition, USAID disaster response experts will continue to monitor and coordinate closely with local emergency response agencies and partners on the ground. USAID humanitarian experts on the ground are assessing damage to ensure U.S. assistance reaches people quickly and in a timely manner.
Along with the announcement, the embassy's official Facebook page quoted US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper as saying: "We would like to extend our deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones and have been severely affected by the storm. The United States is a committed partner of Vietnam in the emergency response and recovery efforts following this unprecedented natural disaster."

Earlier, on September 10, Ambassador Marc Knapper sent his condolences to people affected by storm No. 3. He said the US Embassy is closely monitoring the situation of landslides, floods and infrastructure damage in the North.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. During this difficult time, we also extend our condolences to the military, police, and government of Vietnam, as well as the efforts of the people to support each other in times of need while conducting disaster assessment and response activities. On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the United States-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, we stand with you to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and work closely with our Vietnamese government partners in emergency response efforts to support the recovery of a beautiful and resilient Vietnam,” he said.
For decades, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has partnered with the Government of Vietnam to strengthen national capacity to respond to, prevent, and reduce disaster risks, aiming to improve disaster preparedness for communities across the country in the context of increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters. Over the past five years, the U.S. Mission to Vietnam, through USAID, has provided $7.7 million in emergency assistance and disaster preparedness support, including responding to storm and flood needs and building the capacity of disaster response teams across the country. |
Over the past few days, images of floods causing severe damage in the northern provinces have not only worried people in the country, but also touched the hearts of millions of overseas Vietnamese. From all over the world, overseas Vietnamese have been constantly following the developments of storms and floods and joining hands to organize fundraising activities to support people in the affected areas. |
The North is facing complex floods, causing serious damage to people and property. Authorities have quickly deployed rescue and support work for people in severely affected areas such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang... Flood prevention efforts are being urgently deployed to ensure people's safety and overcome the consequences of natural disasters. |
