Implementing the Strategy for developing reading culture to 2030, relevant sectors, localities, and units, directly the local library system and schools in the province, have been promoting socialization work, attracting the participation and support of many organizations and individuals inside and outside the province.
"Book Street" in Ward 7, Dong Son Ward (Bim Son Town) attracts a large number of people to read and support books.
In recent years, in order to meet the needs of readers in the new situation, the Provincial Library has constantly innovated, expanded its scope of activities, actively sought and mobilized resources to upgrade facilities, supplement equipment, diversify sources of books and newspapers, and apply information technology to its operations. Every year, the Provincial Library supplements and technically processes tens of thousands of books, newspapers, and magazines for the people. In addition to effectively using the State budget for the task of developing document capital, thanks to actively contacting and mobilizing organizations and individuals to join hands in developing a reading culture, each year the Provincial Library receives thousands of books from individuals, agencies, organizations, and publishers inside and outside the province. In 2022, the Provincial Library received nearly 6.2 thousand books; in the first 4 months of 2023, more than 4.5 thousand books were supported by organizations and individuals.
Along with mobilizing funding for books, newspapers, and documents, the Provincial Library also actively mobilizes agencies and units to participate in serving books and newspapers, carrying out advocacy, propaganda, and encouraging the development of reading culture in many forms; effectively implementing the content of coordination programs in the library sector with the Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Education and Training... Through joint activities, the work of circulating documents, books, and newspapers between the Provincial Library and the system of libraries, basic reading rooms, and serving mobile libraries to localities and schools is increasingly promoted, contributing to spreading the reading movement widely, arousing the spirit of self-study and lifelong learning.
Along with the Provincial Library, the province currently has 27 district, town and city libraries; 280 communes, wards and towns; 5 private and clan bookcases; 4,473 grassroots reading rooms. In some localities in the province, many models: "Cultural village bookcase", "Clan bookcase", "Traditional bookcase"; "Book street"... have been built and maintained to operate well, arousing the passion for reading in all classes of people, contributing to improving people's knowledge and building civilized and modern people. In addition, inspired by the "Rural Book" program, many individuals have become active nuclei in bringing knowledge to the grassroots.
One of the "bright spots" in the grassroots library system is Bim Son town. Up to now, the town library has over 28 thousand books, with a variety of books such as: politics, economics, society, language, science, agricultural technology, literature, history, geography, children's books... In 2022, the town library issued 375 cards, serving 13.2 thousand readers, circulating 26.4 thousand books and newspapers. In particular, the socialization of library system activities in the town has attracted the attention of many organizations and individuals. In particular, the "Book Street" model in Ward 7, Dong Son Ward (officially put into operation since May 2020) built and implemented by the ward's retirees is considered a creative and effective model. The small alley is beautifully decorated, with a variety of spaces for books, murals, cultural spaces, traditional history... After 3 years of operation, up to now, "Book Street" in Ward 7 has had thousands of books, mainly donated and contributed by organizations and individuals. Not only is it a familiar reading spot for many classes of people, but it is also a useful cultural playground for children.
It can be said that socializing the activities of the library system not only maximizes all social resources but also demonstrates the autonomy and creativity of libraries in the face of new practical requirements. However, besides good practices and effective models, socialization work in some grassroots libraries still faces many difficulties and limitations; in some localities, people are not really interested in reading, especially in remote areas...
To enhance the effectiveness of socialization, in the coming time, the system of libraries in the province needs to continue to improve the efficiency of operations, affirming its role and position in social life. At the same time, promote propaganda, promotion, attract investment interest and enhance the spirit and social responsibility in creating and improving the reading and learning environment at the library. On the other hand, regularly organize book reading competitions, storytelling, seminars, exhibitions, thematic book exhibitions... to stimulate the reading movement among all classes of people and attract resources from organizations and individuals interested in the development of libraries in particular and reading culture in general.
