Nguyen Viet Cuong (2004) is one of the students of Japan International School (JIS) who was directly admitted to Foreign Trade University, Vietnam - Japan University and Thuy Loi University before officially graduating from high school and achieved N1 Japanese in grade 12.
Viet Cuong is currently a freshman majoring in International Liberal Education at Waseda University - one of the top universities in Japan with a long history and reputation in the field of education.
Viet Cuong and Viet Hoang have studied the Japanese International Program at JIS since the school's founding.
This is the place that has trained 7 Japanese prime ministers and many successful businessmen and presidents of large corporations in this country. Waseda is also a school strong in international relations with a network of more than 600 affiliated universities worldwide, and a globally active alumni association of up to 600,000 members.
Cuong shares his experience learning Japanese in the talk show "JIS students' journey to conquer Japanese universities".
Cuong's younger brother, Nguyen Viet Hoang (2007), is also known as a talented and active boy. Hoang excelled in achieving N1 at the end of grade 10 and won first prize in the 9th Hosei Cup Japanese Speaking Competition. This is also the third consecutive year that students from the Japanese International School have won first prize in this national competition.
Hoang brought to the Hosei Cup stage a convincing speech on the topic "Your ideal school".
A solid stepping stone from school
Viet Cuong entered JIS half a year later than his classmates. This was also a big struggle for his family to stabilize his mentality because Cuong had to skip a class and learn Japanese for the first time. At that time, one of the motivations for Viet Cuong to enter school was that his family felt the excitement and joy after his days studying at JIS of his younger brother Viet Hoang who had enrolled at the school since the beginning of the year.
After 7 years of studying at JIS, Viet Cuong's academic results have exceeded his family's expectations. He said: " The teachers at JIS have taught me important knowledge and skills to best prepare for the new journey. Besides, the environment at JIS is also very open for students to find their own effective learning methods ."
JIS students have the advantage of being fluent in all three languages: Vietnamese, English, and Japanese; are free to develop themselves according to their strengths, and participate in many extracurricular activities to develop skills - important provisions to become global citizens.
Meeting and chatting with Cuong and Hoang, it is easy to see their passion for Japanese and the special affection they have for each other. Viet Hoang is very proud and admires Cuong's determination, which is the motivation for him to try and conquer new achievements. Hoang has also set a goal of achieving IELTS 7.5 like Cuong to prepare for his upcoming dream of studying abroad.
When asked about their experience in achieving N1 Japanese, both brothers humorously expressed that they often watch Anime to memorize sentence patterns and vocabulary and apply them to lessons.
To prepare for the N1 exam, Viet Hoang shared: “ I don’t have any secret except to concentrate in class. In addition, studying many subjects in Japanese with native teachers is also a big advantage for me when studying at JIS. Not only Japanese, subjects such as EJU Social Studies, EJU Japanese, Math… also give me a large and rich Japanese vocabulary .”
The teachers in class understand me better than I do.
Having 2 children studying at JIS, perhaps like many parents, the biggest thing that motivated my children to study from the first year of the school's establishment was admiring the will of the Japanese people, loving the Japanese education system and the school's core values: "Being smart and good at studying is necessary, but more importantly, having a good personality".
JIS not only offers international standard curriculum, but also has an equal learning environment, always promoting moral education and good personality for students.
Viet Cuong's mother shared that she was very impressed when she heard the comments from the teachers at parent-teacher meetings that the teachers understood her children better than she did. Cuong and Hoang are very lucky to study in a wonderful learning environment at JIS. Here, their parents feel that their children have almost fully developed their abilities and are always full of positive energy.
