Mr. Ha Dinh Phong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Van district (Ha Giang province), said that due to the cold weather, the department has asked for the opinion of the district leaders to let students from kindergarten to secondary school (about 28,000 students) take a day off from the afternoon of January 22.
Up to now, there is no expected date for students to return to school because it depends on the weather. In case the weather develops and the temperature is not too low, the district will arrange for students to go to class later than usual (around 8am) and arrange for them to leave school earlier in the afternoon.
In Xin Man district, a representative of the Department of Education and Training said that the department had previously notified schools to arrange for students to take a day off depending on weather conditions. On January 22 and 23, some schools in Xin Man and Nan Xin communes proactively gave students a day off.
In Yen Minh district, the district People's Committee has issued a document directing the Department of Education and Training to notify schools in the area to proactively let students take time off depending on weather conditions. Currently, schools are proactively letting students take time off or still going to school but taking measures to keep them warm. As for schools with students staying at home due to cold weather, they will proactively let students review their lessons in their rooms.
In Meo Vac district, on the morning of January 23, in border communes such as Xin Cai and Thuong Phung, the temperature was measured at about -1 degree Celsius. Frost appeared in many places, at Lung Thang school, the school temporarily suspended 24 students. Thuong Phung kindergarten also proactively suspended more than 518 students due to the extremely cold weather.
Similarly, over the past two days, the weather in some places in Thanh Hoa's mountainous districts has dropped sharply, and many schools in Muong Lat and Ba Thuoc districts have allowed students to stay home to avoid the cold.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Muong Lat district, said that the whole district has more than 3,000 primary and preschool students who have to stay home from school to avoid the cold. According to Ms. Thuy, as of January 24, the temperature in Muong Lat district dropped below 10 degrees Celsius. In addition, in some isolated areas in Trung Thang, Trung Tien, Sai Khao villages (Muong Ly commune) and Kham village (Trung Ly commune), the temperature is around 4 degrees Celsius.
Mr. Nguyen The Tai, Principal of Cao Son Primary and Secondary School (Lung Cao Commune, Ba Thuoc District), said that since yesterday, the school has given all 125 students a day off. In addition, the Cao Son subdivision of Lung Cao Kindergarten with 29 children and Thanh Son Kindergarten with 33 children have also given a day off to avoid the cold.
Mr. Ta Hong Luu, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, said that the unit has issued a document directing educational institutions to proactively monitor the weather and let students stay home when the temperature drops.
