HAGL has just announced the successful recruitment of foreign player Joao Mario Nunes Fernandes to prepare for the 2023 - 2024 season. The striker of Guinea-Bissau origin is a replacement for striker Washington Brandao, who recently said goodbye to the mountain town team. Joao Mario Nunes Fernandes had a trial at Ham Rong and met the requirements set by the HAGL coaching staff, before the two sides signed a contract.
Joao Mario Nunes Fernandes is also the first new player of HAGL since the end of the 2023 season. The striker born in 1993 has 10 years of experience playing football in Portugal. He has played for Benfica B, Atletico CP, Chaves, Coimbra... in lower leagues in Portugal.

Up to now, Joao Mario has played a total of 261 matches at club level, including 250 matches in Portugal. In early 2023, the 30-year-old striker moved to Bulgaria to play for Spartak Varna and scored 2 goals, before returning to Vietnam to join HAGL. This promises to be a quality contract for the Pleiku team, as Joao Mario is quite versatile, able to play as a center forward and a winger.
At the moment, the mountain town team is still not very active in the transfer market, while many other teams in the V-League are very active in adding players for the new season. Recently, there have been rumors that coach Kiatisak is trying to convince former Thai striker Adisak Kraisorn to come play in Vietnam. In addition, there is also information that midfielder Nguyen Tuan Anh wants to leave to play for a more ambitious team.

After the 2023 season ended, Coach Kiatisak made quite confident statements when setting the goal of competing for the championship for HAGL next season. In V-League 2023, the mountain town team did not compete successfully when they were only in the relegation group. Nguyen Tuan Anh and his teammates finished in 2nd place in this group.
