Not back in top form yet
In January 2024, while playing for the PFU Blue Cats Club in the Japan Volleyball Championship, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy unfortunately suffered a knee injury. The terrible injury lasted for a long time, causing her to go from a main player to a reserve player in the PFU Blue Cats team. In May 2024, she returned to play for VTV Binh Dien Long An Club in the VTV9 - Binh Dien International Women's Volleyball Tournament. However, because she had not fully recovered from her injury, she did not dare to take the risk. Her appearance on the field had more spiritual significance than professional significance.
With a desire to pursue professional volleyball, in September 2024, the former captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team announced the good news that she would go to Europe to play for the Kuzeyboru Club (Türkiye) for the first time. In a fiercely competitive environment and not having returned to her peak form after an injury, Thanh Thuy could not stand firm and had few opportunities to play in Türkiye. Therefore, it was not surprising that she left the Kuzeyboru team after only 2 months of playing. The best hitter of Vietnamese women's volleyball to date continued to express her desire to compete internationally. In December 2024, Thanh Thuy joined the Gresik Petrokimia Club in the Indonesian Volleyball Championship, which was considered to be at her level, where she had many opportunities to perform with the expectation of returning to her peak form.
In fact, in the Indonesian Volleyball Championship, Thanh Thuy was given both opportunities and expectations and she also showed some of her talent. However, experts assessed that she had not yet regained her best form. Of course, Gresik Petrokimia Club expected more from her as a foreign player. Along with the results not as expected, this club chose an American foreign player to replace her. Thanh Thuy's most recent trip abroad therefore ended quickly within 1 month.
Return to the domestic arena
Yesterday, February 5, coach Thai Quang Lai of VTV Binh Dien Long An Club said that after returning home, Thanh Thuy will return to practice with VTV Binh Dien Long An Club. According to the plan, she will join the Western team to participate in the Hoa Lu - Binh Dien Volleyball Cup taking place from March 5 to 10. After that, she will continue with this team to conquer the first phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship taking place from March 22 to 31.
The last time Thanh Thuy participated in the national volleyball championship was in 2022, when VTV Binh Dien Long An Club ranked 3rd. This time, coach Thai Quang Lai and his team participated in the tournament as the defending champion. With Thanh Thuy's return, VTV Binh Dien Long An Club is confident in its domestic players but is also having a headache in finding good foreign players to aim for the goal of maintaining the No. 1 position in Vietnamese women's volleyball. Mr. Thai Quang Lai said that the national volleyball championship takes place at the same time as tournaments in China and Thailand, so it is difficult to find quality foreign players who meet professional standards.
Thanh Thuy's return to the domestic arena after a long time playing in Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Türkiye, and Indonesia is considered a step back. However, with her passion, talent, and desire to conquer, the 27-year-old player is determined to return. The coaching staff of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team hopes that Thanh Thuy will return in time to join the Vietnamese team in conquering two important tournaments this year: the World Volleyball Championship in September and the 33rd SEA Games in December, both in Thailand.
