On the afternoon of October 24, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen chaired a meeting and worked with the delegation of the World Craft Council.
At the reception, Head of the Hanoi Rural Development Department Nguyen Van Chi said that during the three days of October 21, 22, and 23, the working delegation of the World Craft Council surveyed and evaluated the criteria to consider recognizing Bat Trang pottery village (Gia Lam district) and Van Phuc silk village (Ha Dong district) as members of the Global Creative Craft Cities Network.
The Council assessed that Bat Trang pottery village not only meets all the criteria of a traditional craft village but also deserves to become a member of the global network of Creative Craft Cities. In addition, the Council also recognized the unique values of Van Phuc silk weaving village, especially its rich culture and history of development spanning thousands of years...
Sharing at the reception, Chairman of the World Craft Council Asia-Pacific Aziz Murtazaev - Head of the delegation, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the leaders of the Hanoi People's Committee. Mr. Aziz said that in the past few days, the delegation had visited 2 craft villages, met with artisans, businessmen, people and local leaders.
Through the meetings, the delegation members had a panoramic view of Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village. “We were really impressed with the history, tradition and values of the craft villages, and saw the dedication of the artisans to preserving and developing Hanoi’s craft villages…” - Mr. Aziz shared.
The representative of the World Craft Council also assessed that there are few places in the world with such great potential for developing craft villages as Hanoi; therefore, it is recommended that the city consider craft villages a priority in its development orientation, thereby increasing investment and promotion so that the capital's craft villages and craft village products are better known to the world.
Representatives of the World Craft Council also frankly discussed a number of issues that need to be improved in the development of Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village; at the same time, they said they are ready to coordinate with Hanoi to bring experts, businesses, and artisans from around the world to exchange and share experiences in developing craft villages with Hanoi.
Sharing at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said that the city currently has 1,350 craft villages and traditional craft villages, accounting for 56% of the total number of craft villages in the country. At the same time, he emphasized that Hanoi identifies craft villages as one of its development strengths; in recent years, it has paid attention and invested large resources to preserve and develop craft villages in a systematic and effective manner.
With the above potential, strengths and orientation, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen hopes that the World Craft Council will continue to pay attention, cooperate and support Hanoi to realize the goal of sustainable development of craft villages, striving to make people and artisans not only live by their profession but also become rich thanks to traditional crafts.
Regarding the recommendations and proposals of the representatives of the World Craft Council regarding solutions for the development of the two craft villages of Bat Trang pottery and Van Phuc silk, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen sincerely thanked and assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to research and find solutions for implementation. In addition, in the coming time, it is necessary to maintain regular information and advise on proposed coordination programs to have the most effective cooperation exchanges with the World Craft Council.
