Multiple support solutions
According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the city currently has 327 recognized traditional craft villages in 24 districts, towns and cities. In addition, there are about 500 active craft villages in the city. Craft village products are quite diverse, with many types, beautiful designs and good quality.
Not only leading the country in the number of craft villages, Hanoi is also the leading locality in the number of OCOP products. From 2019 to now, the city has evaluated and classified 2,711 products, including 6 5-star products, 12 potential 5-star products, 1,473 4-star products and 1,220 3-star products.
In recent times, Hanoi city and its departments, branches and localities have paid attention to and implemented many solutions and activities to support craft villages and OCOP entities in product development through industrial promotion, trade and tourism promotion programs. However, the output of craft village products and OCOP products still faces many difficulties. The reason is that in the context of the economy being affected by many impacts, especially when the export market, domestic market purchasing power, production and business activities all tend to slow down.
At the end of 2023, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade recognized 10 models of creative design centers, introducing, promoting and selling OCOP products, craft villages associated with tourism in the communes: Bat Trang (Gia Lam district), Chuyen My (Phu Xuyen district), Phu Nghia (Chuong My district)...
The goal of these centers is to enhance the value of handicraft products, OCOP, craft villages, build a chain of links from creative design, production, processing to product consumption on the basis of preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of craft villages associated with community tourism activities, agricultural and rural tourism in the circular economy.
Artisan Vu Van Ca (Chieu My commune, Phu Xuyen district) said that the commune has 7/7 villages with mother-of-pearl inlay and lacquer craft that have been recognized by the city as traditional craft villages. Therefore, the establishment of a center for creative design, introduction, promotion and sale of OCOP products, craft villages associated with tourism to support craft villages is a great joy for producers as well as the local government and people.
Need to be upgraded, landscaped to attract tourists
Although creative design centers, introduction, promotion and sale of OCOP products, craft villages associated with tourism in districts and towns have been invested in and recognized, many centers are still very simple. For example, in Chuyen My commune (Phu Xuyen district), the center was formed on the basis of the old primary school, not ensuring the landscape to attract visitors and purchase products. Artisan Vu Van Ca hopes that the center will be invested with more funds to upgrade the product display area for craft villages; organize tours and routes to bring visitors to visit and travel.
Similarly, the center for creative design, introduction, promotion and sale of OCOP products, craft villages associated with tourism in Phu Nghia commune (Chuong My district) was also formed from the facilities of the traditional house of Phu Vinh craft village, about 1,000m2 wide; including a level 4 house where the products of the craft village and the products of artisans are displayed. According to Chairman of Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Craft Village Association Nguyen Van Trung, due to limited facilities, since being recognized, the center has not welcomed as many visitors and experiences as expected.
Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai said that in 2024, the city set a target of recognizing 5-10 models of creative design centers, introducing, promoting and selling OCOP products, craft villages associated with tourism in districts and towns. To promote the effectiveness of the centers, after the city recognizes them, it is necessary to increase investment, upgrade existing infrastructure as well as do a good job of management and operation.
According to Nguyen Minh Tien, Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), Hanoi has not yet fully exploited the potential of craft villages. The city needs to upgrade and improve the landscape of traditional craft villages and properly handle environmental pollution issues in order to develop tourism. If done well, Hanoi can turn 327 craft villages and traditional craft villages into 327 unique tourist destinations of the capital.
Recently, the Hanoi People's Committee issued a plan to develop rural industries in Hanoi in 2024. The plan focuses on implementing 3 goals, including: developing a "Master plan for developing craft villages in Hanoi for the period 2024-2030, with a vision to 2050"; promulgating regulations on a number of contents and support levels for the development of rural industries and craft villages in Hanoi as prescribed in Decree No. 52/2018/ND-CP of the Government; considering the recognition of the title "Craft villages, traditional crafts and traditional craft villages" in Hanoi in 2024 for 15 craft villages.
