Motorcycle prices at rare low levels

Motorcycle prices in the Vietnamese market are at an unprecedented low. According to An Ninh Tien Te, retail prices for many Honda and Yamaha motorcycle models are falling by tens of millions of dong at dealerships.

For example, Honda’s best-selling scooter model, Vision, is currently being offered at attractive prices at dealerships. The standard Honda Vision is being offered by dealerships at prices ranging from 30-30.5 million VND (1.1 million VND below the highest suggested price and 500,000 VND lower than last month).

Some versions of the Honda AirBlade 125/160 scooter model in mid-March 2025 were offered by dealers for up to 1.7 million VND lower than the suggested price. The Honda SH 350i ABS costs 128 million VND, a decrease of nearly 24.5 million VND compared to the listed price...

Pickup trucks are about to increase in price

According to the draft Law on Special Consumption Tax (amended), the tax rate on pickup trucks will increase from 15%, 20%, 25% depending on cylinder capacity to 30%, 36% and 54% respectively.

Mr. Le Thanh Tuan, manager of a car showroom on Cong Hoa Street (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City), told Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper that a standard pickup truck model with the lowest capacity of 2 liters, the import price is about 450 million VND, with the current special consumption tax rate of 15%, this tax is equivalent to 70 million VND. Combined with other taxes and fees, the price of this car model sold on the market is about 650 million VND.

If the special consumption tax rate increases to 30%, equivalent to doubling the tax amount, the car price will increase to 720 million VND.

However, according to the auto business community, it is still unclear whether this tax will be increased or not, so the pickup truck market may continue to be in a "wait and see" state.

Pig prices 'cool down', pork in the market is still as expensive as beef

The price of live pigs nationwide has continuously decreased in recent days, with the highest price dropping from 83,000 VND/kg to 79,000 VND/kg.

But according to Znews, although the price of live pigs is on a downward trend, recorded at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City, the retail price of pork remains high, with some types even close to the price of regular beef.

According to records at Tan Dinh market on March 20, pork ribs cost 200,000 VND/kg, pork belly costs 180,000 VND/kg, lean pork is 150,000 VND/kg, ground meat is 130,000 VND/kg, thigh meat is 150,000 VND/kg, cutlets are 130,000 VND/kg... These prices remain unchanged compared to 1 week ago, when the price of live pigs was at 83,000 VND/kg.

Cassava prices plummet

Cassava prices have dropped by more than half compared to last year, hundreds of households in Muong Lat district (Thanh Hoa) do not want to pull out the tubers because they do not have enough labor.

Mr. Mua Seo Vu (born in 1973), residing in Nang 2 village, Muong Ly commune, said that his family has more than 4 hectares of hilly land growing cassava. Last year, the price of cassava reached 2,900 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, his family earned about 100 million VND. This year, the price of cassava has dropped by more than half, only 1,500 VND/kg, sometimes down to 900 VND/kg (depending on the time).

Faced with the sharp drop in cassava prices, the Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment has stepped in and quickly proposed solutions to help farmers sell their products. According to the leaders of Muong Lat district, the locality has connected with Phuc Thinh Company to buy all remaining cassava output (about 8,400 tons) from the people, expected to be completed before March 30.

Dry coconut prices hit record high

The price of raw dry coconut purchased in Ben Tre province has increased. According to Tuoi Tre Newspaper, the price of dry coconut has now increased to 190,000 VND/dozen, a record high.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (62 years old, living in Giong Trom) said that at this time, coconuts are "hanging fruit" (off-season), causing output to decrease by more than 50% compared to the main season, so the price of coconuts is often high. But never before has the price of coconuts been pushed up as high as it is now.

Durian prices 'compete' to increase, many places 'sold out'

The scarcity of supply has pushed up the price of durian. According to Tri Thuc - Znews, the price of durian has doubled compared to February.

Specifically, Ri6 durian type A is about 90,000 VND/kg, type B is 70,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of Monthong durian is currently at 135,000 VND/kg for type A and 115,000 VND/kg for type B.

In February, the price of Ri6 grade A durian bought at the garden was only 60,000 VND/kg, and at times even dropped to 38,000-40,000 VND/kg. Thai Monthong durian was only 50,000-55,000 VND/kg.

Prices are high but many places still do not have enough goods to supply traders.
