Promoting Lam Dong avocado on Vietnam flights

Lam Dong plans to cooperate with Vietnam Airlines to promote specialty avocados on flights to Korea, aiming to boost consumption and export of avocado products.

On the afternoon of March 24, speaking with reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province said that implementing Decision No. 377/QD-UBND dated February 25, 2025 of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province on promulgating the GRDP growth scenario of the province for 2025.

In order to promote the consumption and export of avocados, the Department of Industry and Trade plans to coordinate with Vietnam Airlines to promote Lam Dong avocados on flights from Vietnam to Korea.

According to Mr. Khanh, the program is expected to reach about 52,000 passengers on flights and Vietnam Airlines will serve dishes made from Lam Dong avocado on flights from Vietnam to Korea. These dishes will be labeled "Lam Dong Avocado" for consumers to easily recognize. The program will take place continuously for a month, expected in June 2025, the peak time of avocado season.

Regarding the coordination method, the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province in coordination with the People's Committees of Bao Lam, Di Linh and Lam Ha districts will provide a total of 6 tons of fresh avocados (each locality sponsors 2 tons) for free to Vietnam Airlines to prepare dishes to serve passengers on the flight.

At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade will organize a program announcement ceremony at an avocado garden in the province and carry out communication-related work (including information about avocado suppliers from the districts).

“The program is of great significance not only in promoting Lam Dong’s typical agricultural products but also in promoting international trade connections. I believe that, with close coordination from relevant parties, the image and value of Lam Dong avocado will be enhanced, opening up many export opportunities in the future,” Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized.

According to the latest statistics, the total avocado growing area in Lam Dong province is currently about 8,067 hectares. Of which, the 034 avocado variety accounts for the largest proportion at 81.3%, equivalent to 6,557 hectares. The 034 avocado area is mainly concentrated in the districts of Bao Lam (2,371 hectares), Di Linh (2,782 hectares), Lam Ha (440 hectares), Duc Trong (390 hectares) and Bao Loc City (418 hectares).

In addition to the 034 avocado variety, Booth avocado also recorded a rate of 11.2%, equivalent to 900 hectares, mainly distributed in Lam Ha district (530 hectares), Duc Trong district (110 hectares) and Da Lat city (95.2 hectares). The remaining part, accounting for 7.5% (610 hectares), are other avocado varieties cultivated in many different agricultural regions.
