In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will not divide its quota among the methods of talent selection, thinking assessment test scores, and high school graduation exam scores like every year.
In mid-January 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology planned to divide the quota percentage among the methods according to the following ratio: Talent selection (20%), thinking assessment test scores (40%) and high school graduation exam scores (40%). However, on March 12, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the removal of the quota division among the methods is to comply with the draft university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
According to the draft, universities must convert admission methods and combinations to the same scale. Thus, schools do not need to divide their quotas according to each method and combination as before.
According to Mr. Dien, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will announce the score conversion formula after the Ministry of Education and Training "finalizes" the admission regulations.
Previously, at the admissions and career counseling program, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) said that among the three admission methods to the school, it is expected that the talent admission method will have the highest equivalent conversion coefficient compared to the other two methods, which are the thinking assessment test scores or the high school graduation exam.
“For candidates taking the thinking assessment test, the score of this test will also be more advantageous than the high school graduation exam score. In addition, if candidates have additional foreign language certificates such as IELTS, they can also receive bonus points when considering admission.
For example, a student who gets 75 points in the thinking assessment test, plus 4 points from the IELTS certificate, the admission score using this method is 79 points. This score will be converted to the equivalent to be considered for admission with all other methods," said Mr. Hai.
Dr. Vu Duy Hai added that after the Ministry of Education and Training officially announces the admission regulations, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will announce the method of converting scores between methods for admission. The conversion criteria will be based on the academic results and training results of students who have used this exam to enter Hanoi University of Science and Technology in recent years.
