Taking the medical history, it was noted that Mr. V. had a history of old pulmonary tuberculosis. After examination and chest CT scan, the patient was found to have a large air cyst in the upper lobe of the right lung that had ruptured, causing a large amount of pneumothorax in the right pleural cavity, and at the same time causing passive collapse of part of the parenchyma of the lower lobe of the right lung and displacement of the mediastinum, the heart shadow shifted to the left, a critical condition. Doctors from the Emergency Department, General Surgery and Intensive Care quickly consulted and decided to perform continuous drainage of the pleural cavity.

On September 12, specialist doctor 2 Nguyen Thanh Sang, Deputy Head of the Department of General Surgery, Xuyen A Tay Ninh General Hospital, said that the patient's condition of pneumothorax due to rupture of the air cyst and conservative treatment did not give positive results, the air continued to leak out and drain after 48 hours, so the doctors agreed to prescribe thoracic endoscopic surgery to remove the air cyst in the right lung. During the surgery, the team cut the cluster of air bubbles at the top of the right lung, sutured the leaking lung parenchyma, causing adhesion of the right pleura, and improved the patient's respiratory function.
After surgery, the patient's difficulty breathing has decreased and his health is gradually recovering well.
Specialist Doctor 2 Nguyen Thanh Sang said that lung cysts are abnormal air sacs that form in the lungs due to the destruction and expansion of alveoli. Large cysts can take up a lot of space, reducing the ability to exchange gases and causing difficulty breathing. More dangerously, when the cyst ruptures, the patient may have a pneumothorax, leading to collapsed lungs and acute respiratory failure. If not treated promptly, this condition can be life-threatening.
Endoscopic lung cystectomy is a minimally invasive treatment method that offers many advantages over traditional methods such as small incisions, less pain, limited complications during and after surgery, quick recovery, and reduced treatment time and costs.
