CCCD issued before July 1, 2024 is valid until the expiration date printed on the card. |
On the morning of November 27, the National Assembly passed the Law on Identification, which will take effect from July 1, 2024. With the name change from the Citizen Identification Law (CCCD) to the Identification Law, the CCCD card will also have a new name, the Identification Card.
Article 46 of the Law on Identification stipulates on transition clearly: CCCD cards issued before the effective date of this Law (July 1, 2024) are valid until the expiration date printed on the card. Citizens, when in need, will be issued a replacement for an ID card.
If the ID card is still valid, it can be used until December 31, 2024.
Legal documents issued using information from ID cards and CCCDs shall retain their validity; state agencies shall not require citizens to change or adjust information about ID cards and CCCDs in issued documents.
CCCD and ID cards that expire from January 15, 2024 to before June 30, 2024 will continue to be valid until June 30, 2024.
Regulations on the use of CCCD and CMND in legal documents issued before the effective date of this law shall be applied as for identity cards issued under the provisions of this law.
