Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) has just issued a plan to use an electronic ticket system for cashless payment on metro line No. 1. Accordingly, the plan will be divided into 2 phases.
During the 30-day free period (from December 22, 2024 to January 20, 2025), during the first 10 days (from December 22 to December 31, 2024), train passengers can use EMV cards issued by Mastercard to travel by train. People who do not have a card will be issued an anonymous or identified card (if required) to scan the card at the entrance and exit ticket gates at the stations.
Mastercard and banks will organize card issuance and have promotional programs, consulting customers to guide card identification.
From January 1, 2025 to January 9, 2025, people can use their chip-embedded citizen identification cards to scan cards at readers at ticket gates at entrances and exits at stations to board trains.
From January 10 to January 20, 2025, people can use bank cards, EMV cards of domestic and foreign organizations, register for virtual cards to experience metro via Apple Pay/Samsung Pay or register for an account via MCMC Metro on their phones and receive QR-Code cards to use for train travel.

During the toll period (from January 21, 2025 onwards), passengers can use a variety of payment methods including:
Cash and non-cash tickets are available through the use of international EMV cards (Mastercard, VISA, JCB, AMEX, UPI), domestic cards (NAPAS) to scan the card at ticket gates at stations.
Non-EMV users who want to use cashless ticketing will be issued free anonymous prepaid cards to be swiped at ticket gates.
In addition to single tickets, passengers can buy 1-day and 3-day tickets, register for a Metro account via the HCMC Metro app and can link payments via bank wallets/payment apps to buy tickets, then receive a QR code generated directly from the phone to use for train travel.
Metro Line 1 officially enters commercial operation from December 22
Monthly tickets for general passengers, passengers using monthly tickets must register their identity at the ticket counters of the stations to use their citizen identification as a train card. People buy monthly tickets at the ticket counters or top up via the HCMC Metro app. The price for 1 month is 300,000 VND/person/month (unlimited trips per month).
For students, the monthly ticket price is reduced to 150,000 VND/ticket/month. When boarding the train, you need to bring your ID card and student card.
People who are eligible for free train tickets need to bring their citizen identification card and documents proving their eligibility for priority according to regulations to activate the use of their ID card to board the train.
