French girl comes to Vietnam to find her mother on the days before Tet At Ty 2025
Báo Thanh niên•20/01/2025
On the days before the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, a French girl returned to Vietnam to find her mother who had left her at An Giang Central General Hospital.
That is the story of a French girl of Vietnamese origin, Eva Hoang Rouch (29 years old), who moved many people about her journey to find her Vietnamese roots.
Clue
On the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, we had the opportunity to chat with Eva while the French girl and her boyfriend stayed to explore Ho Chi Minh City, before returning to the West to find her biological mother.
Eva was abandoned in hospital in 1996, then adopted by a French couple.
Showing me the documents that had been carefully preserved for nearly 3 decades by her adoptive parents, the French girl said that they were the only clue, the only luggage to be able to find her roots. In those adoption records, I especially paid attention to a handwritten document with somewhat scribbled lines. It was the record telling the story of the French girl who was abandoned at An Giang Central General Hospital. The content of the record clearly stated that at 11:30 p.m. on January 12, 1996, the hospital security team, while on duty at the gate, was informed by the foster parents that there was an abandoned child at the hospital. "The baby had a set of clothes on its body, a towel and a milk bottle," the hospital security team at that time described. After that, the unfortunate child was transferred to the An Giang Center for the Elderly and Orphans for care. In the birth certificate registered on February 16, 1996, the child’s name is Duong Thi Ngoc Hoang, born on November 12, 1995, with a birthplace in Long Xuyen. However, the information about the parents is left blank.
Minutes from the old adoption file
Eva's birth name is Ngoc Hoang.
Not long after, the baby girl Ngoc Hoang was adopted by a French couple and lived a new life in Metz, eastern France. With the new name Eva Hoang Rouch, the adoptive parents still wanted to keep something "very Vietnamese" in their adopted daughter's name. The French adoptive parents said that Eva was abandoned at 2 months old and adopted at about 4 months old. From there, Eva had a beautiful childhood, growing up in the immense love of her adoptive parents. The kind French couple never hid their adopted Vietnamese daughter's origins.
Companion
Originally a customer relations manager at a company in France, Eva decided to take a year off and embark on her world tour. During that journey, the girl stopped in Vietnam to find her biological mother. Commenting on a social media post with a girl who used to live in the same orphanage led Eva to meet Mr. Huynh Tan Sinh, a Vietnamese living in France who is famous for supporting cases of foreigners looking for relatives. The girl shared her story with Mr. Sinh and was enthusiastically helped by the kind man. On this trip back to Vietnam, Eva departed from Paris, with the special companionship of her boyfriend, Mr. Nicolas Melchorri.
This time, Eva's trip to find her roots was accompanied by her boyfriend.
Nicolas said he has known Eva for nearly 7 years. "She always told me that she did not necessarily have to find her biological family, because she grew up knowing that she was abandoned and had no information about her biological parents. But the more she grew up, the more she felt the need to find her roots, to try to understand where she came from," he said. The French man said that he and his girlfriend had traveled around the world together for 7 months and the trip to Vietnam was her first return to her roots without her adoptive parents to explore her country. He planned to spend several days with his girlfriend in An Giang to experience the place where Eva was born. "She knows that finding her biological parents is fragile, but I will be by her side to support and accompany her on her journey," he shared. The French man commented that Eva is a strong woman, always setting goals in life to continue moving forward. She is organized, serious about work, humorous and very sociable. He hopes that Eva will find a miracle on this journey.
"Mom! I don't blame you! I just want to know my story, why I was abandoned and how my family is! Maybe it was very difficult for you to leave me! If you read this article, please contact me!", Eva said.
Eva Hoang Rouch, French of Vietnamese origin
Maybe…
This is the third time the French girl has returned to Vietnam. She came here in 2007 with her adoptive parents, and tried to find her biological family, but there were no clues. "I was abandoned at the hospital, and there was no other information as my adoptive parents told me when they visited the orphanage," she shared. Although she has not visited Vietnam many times, for the French girl of Vietnamese origin, this is a wonderful country. She loves the people, the food and everything. She always thinks that she has two lives, one in France and one in Vietnam.
French girl hopes to find miracle in Vietnam
"Deep down, are you angry with your biological mother?", Eva replied with a gentle smile. She said that she had never intended to be angry or blame her mother. She believed that her biological mother had no other choice but to abandon her child. Growing up in a wonderful French family with lovely adoptive parents and a Vietnamese brother, she felt happy that her biological mother gave her a new chance in life.

Mr. Huynh Tan Sinh, who helped the French girl on her journey to find her biological mother, said that although the chances are slim, he hopes that with the cooperation of the online community and Thanh Nien readers, Eva will find the miracle of her life on this special Lunar New Year. Surely, this will be a Tet full of love.
