On the morning of June 5, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper.

At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated Ambassador Marc E. Knapper for actively working with Vietnamese authorities and visiting many localities to promote the cooperative relationship between the two countries to become increasingly deeper and more effective.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper shared his honor to return to Vietnam to work and assume the responsibility of the US Ambassador, especially on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries. During the past time, the Ambassador has always received active cooperation from the Vietnamese authorities.

Expressing his joy at the many achievements the two countries have made after 28 years of normalizing relations and 10 years of establishing a comprehensive partnership, the US Ambassador said that these results were achieved thanks to the great efforts of relevant agencies of the two countries.

Informing that US President Joe Biden was pleased with the results of his high-level phone call with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong last March, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper assessed that in the context of the world facing many global challenges, the two countries' enhanced cooperation is of great significance for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.

Regarding the recent visit of a US business delegation to Vietnam, which expressed its desire to invest in the fields of healthcare, high technology, and especially education and training, the Ambassador emphasized that education and training are the central areas in the bilateral cooperation relationship with effective projects, typically the Fulbright University model in Vietnam with many successes in recent times.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper affirmed that the United States will continue to cooperate closely with Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war, including addressing the impact of Agent Orange/dioxin, clearing bombs and mines, and searching for missing persons after the war.

Appreciating the US Ambassador's efforts in promoting bilateral relations as well as his affection for the country and people of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong stated that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing cooperative relations with the United States and always considers the United States one of its top important partners.

Referring to the positive results of the high-level phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden last March, the President stated that the phone call delivered many important messages and directions for the long-term development of bilateral relations. The two leaders assigned relevant agencies of the two countries to promote cooperation in all fields.

Agreeing with the Ambassador's assessment that, with the efforts of both sides, the relationship between the two countries is at a very good stage of development, President Vo Van Thuong suggested that the functional agencies of the two countries coordinate closely to successfully organize activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership, meeting the expectations of the people of the two countries.

To further deepen the Vietnam-US relationship in the coming time, the President suggested that both sides further increase delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; promote more bilateral cooperation programs and projects in all fields, bringing practical benefits to both countries, while actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Regarding economic and trade cooperation, the President emphasized that Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for US businesses to explore investment and business cooperation opportunities in Vietnam. The President suggested that both sides further exploit the potential for cooperation in the field of education and training, especially US educational programs that are being implemented very successfully in Vietnam such as Fulbright University, bringing many practical meanings to the people of the two countries.

The President also suggested that the two sides further expand defense and security cooperation, especially in overcoming the consequences of war, humanitarian programs, especially handling the effects of Agent Orange/dioxin in Vietnam; contributing significantly to the process of reconciliation, healing and building trust between the two countries, while opening up new cooperation opportunities in other important areas.
